Default Is this Head Rebuildable?

I Need to rebuild my head this is a mx3 dohc 1.6 head same as miata b6 head

look closely a the spark plug #3 hole and then down between the two HLA the is a small scratch should i be scary to use this head some people say's yes and other's says no what do you think.

Im planning to put in my hks cams, new 3angle job valves, new lifters, news seals, news springs, new retainer and may be a port and polish job on the head if it worth it.

What do you think?

It's hard to tell how deep the scratch is from the pic.
Your best bet is to take it to aq shop and get their opinion on it.

Zabac wasn't trying to give you a hard time. Don't worry. I, too have English as a second language.

About your question on the head: I trust zabac but you can wait for someone else to chime in and provide additional info.

thnx Rafa

i have done a few shop and some says it can be rebuilt and some say it must be welded and line bored so.... the scratch isnt to deep and i dont really think it can be bad for my cams and dont even think this may cause low oil pressure. Someone tell me that this scratch will not be bad for my engine...

But i want to know if someone ever rebuilt a head like this

I wouldn't put money into a head that's questionable.

It is odd to see one of the inside cam journals scored and not the ones directly under the timing belt tension (the very first journals by cyl#1).

I would clean off all the oil from all the journals and look for scored areas or scratch marks. Maybe submit photos after cleaning off the journals.

If all you have are faint scratch marks you should be ok.

I would think it would be ok. What kind of rebuilding are you doing? Besides porting work, most everything else could be transfered if it did end up being a problem in the future. Im curious as to where it came from in the first place though. Does the camshaft have a matching score mark on it? I would probably use the head though, doesnt seem like that big of a deal. Its a small scratch from what I can tell, and in the center of the journal, so I cant see it being a very big problem.

It's fine. Just lightly polish that journal to make sure there isn't a bur around that scratch. Once you fire it up and there's oil pressure, nothing touches anyways, so it won't matter. It's a camshaft anyways. It's not under much load and doesn't really wear. That head is fine.

I damn sure wouldn't have a machine shop weld/line bore it. If anything, they would skim the caps and then line bore it. But it's 100% NOT needed in this case. That won't hurt anything.

thank you very much guy's

I prefer to use this head for my rebuilt because ONLY this head would match to my b6t base because this head have been modified to fit the b6t end some of the coolant hole wasnt fitting right and then the engine shop added some plugs!

In this head ill put:

Stock polished,3angle job valve, Stock springs??, New lifters, new valve seal, reuse my stock retainer, and put in my HKS cam witch are 264 deg i think

Any sugestion?

I have a 323 GTX B6T Rebuilted base, gt-28R Turbo A/R 42, And stock b6t injector on my b6de intake, then do you think the miata 1.6 intake should be better than mine because le mx3 b6de intake have very long runner witch may cause more restriction.

Walbro 255 fuel pump, full COP, and MS2

Im open to any sugestion you guy'S rock!

If you find it's not salvageable let me know. I have a second engine I'm tearing down and have several spare parts.
