Default Ignition Timing - Is my engine det prone?

I've been messing around a lot with the tune on my car a lot the past week, manually smooting VE and Ignition Advance tables, it's made a lovely difference to the drivability of the car.

I've also been tuning the ignition advance a bit better as I now have a form of knock detection other than detcans i.e. a KnockLite. I've made sure I'm not getting any false knock with the KL, it's picking up the most minor of knock events perfectly.

I'm curious as to what sort of advance people are running at 8-12 psi from 3-7k rpm. Mine starts at about 12deg BTDC at 3kish and ramps up to 16-17 deg at redline.

From reading on here that seems a bit low, a lot of you guys run advance in the mid 20's, (some in the 30's! Magna!). And as the OEM map is in the 30's at WOT/redline it's almost like a base retard of 12-15deg....!?!?

I can confirm that my timing is in sync with the MS, and the engine runs fine, nothing seems untoward.

Just wondering if there was something simple I'm missing, or if it's just that my car is a bit det prone, or is normal? If the middle one, is there anything I can do to help it? I use Tesco99 (99RON similar to your 93 I guess), exclusively, and have WI fitted, but not currently running, (I need a tap!). I aim for AFR's in the 11.8 range, but have read that 11 flat may provide more det resistance, (source Savington somewhere on here), so will try that this weekend - I have plenty of injector left, peak DC is 60%...)

Be interested to see peoples ignition maps, too just out of curiosity.

Any WI?

That's almost 10deg more in places than me which is what's making me think something is up.

Is there anything that could be up which increases the chance of det? I run colder plugs and what not.

Could a fecked PCV valve have a major detrimental effect?

no, just a little 1.6L, I still consider that fairly conservative.
