Default bp turbo swap possible on miata???

alright soooo i can get a bp turbo engine swap from a company here in canada. this swap comes with engine tranny ecu and all wiring... now the bp is originally out of the 323 gtx correct? i was talking to a buddy of mine that owns a tuning shop here and he was thinking swap the intake mani of a 1.8l onto it and in theory it should work as a rwd engine swap right????

please i need everyone to help me out on this need to figure out if its worth my time in doing this swap... also need any ideas on the mods that the car would have to endure as well as the engine to make it rwd.. Thanks everyone.

and no the 1.8 manifold wont just bolt up.

I'm pretty sure there was a BP-T in Japan. I slightly recall tsb having one in his car.
OP, drop it in with your wiring and megasquirt it. Way easier.

currently slowly undertaking this.

bpt is 1.8 from the 323 gtx
bpd is 1.8 from the 323 gtr.
bpd is stronger and will handle more hp from stock.
from what iv read bpt can push 250hp and bpd can push 300.

you will need a custom intake manifold or get the gtx manifold modified to point the right way.

custom exhaust mani or modify one to point the turbo the right way.

i believe 1.8 engine mounts bolt up but i cant confirm this.

a rwd sump and have a plug for turbo oil return.

custom thermostat housing (comes out the rear needs to be directed around intake side

custom ignitor bracket

shorten the dip stick or bung the hole and use the rwd sump hole.

suposibly the 1.6 gearbox will bolt up. cant confirm this yet but should find out next week.

The BPT is a turbocharged and intercooled variant of the BP. It produced 180 PS (132 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 24.2 kg·m (237 N·m; 175 lb·ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm in JDM-spec. 95 octane rated European models only claimed 166 PS (122 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 219 N·m (162 lb·ft) at 3,000 rpm.[4]

It featured an IHI RHB5 VJ20 turbocharger, sidemount intercooler, 330 cc blacktop injectors (high impedance). The standard BPT ecu had a boost cut at 14.7psi (calculated based on the air flow). The BPT versions of the Familia and Laser were only available in 4WD models, and featured an open front differential along with viscous LSD centre and rear differentials. This engine is rumoured to have been installed in some Mazda MX-5 Miata models. <Wikipedia.
330cc stock injectors and a 14.7 psi boost cut sounds like it could do some impressive stuff on stock ecu. Megasquirt is reasonably priced thoguh so theres really no point.

I highly doubt the internals are any stronger then eagle rods with stock auto pistons which is like 450$, you need custom intake manifold and turbo manifold, this is starting to sound like a waste of money.

@dustybike. Let me know when you get to the tranny fitment and if I need to get some other tranny. Good luck with the build and when its done message me some pics as I hope to be doing my swap if all works

if the 1.6 trans will bolt up wont any other miata trans bolt up also?

It might have different goodies like some magic camshafts.
I say go for it if you have friends with fab skills.

its not worth putting a bpt in a miata, for the cost of the motor you can get a bp, the bp will bolt to a b6 trans but the bolts to the oil will not like up with the bell housing. actully you will need a different oil pan and re route all the turbo lines to fit a rear wheel drive application. The cams are better then stock bp05 cams but the bpt head (bp26 head) is more restricted then the bp05 head on the exhaust side. if i recall its 8.3-1 compression? your would make more power running a stock bp with 9-1 compression, and if i recall the miata's had more compression then the front wheel drive version of the bp05. this is coming from a front wheel drive owner, i curently have a 1.6 motor bolted to a 1.8 mazda/kia trans. you would need to redo the downpipe for rear wheel drive. it just seems pointless to me to go through all that work when bp's are a dime a dozen.

oh yea it has a distributor, and you will need to convert your engine harness, if you use a regular miata bp you can run the motor of the 1.6 harness no swapping needed.

I don't see why you couldn't just pop out the distrubutor and put in a CAS instead. more than likely you could. It probably has the same type of connection on the cam to the dizzy\cas

the FWD dizzys are 4-1 pattern, so the bpt computer wouldn't like the 4-2 miata CAS but.... I think you can swap the cam signal wheel over to a CAS... I have a fwd dizzy in the garage that I'm about steel the cam wheel out of, so I can run my trackspeed wheel and a one tooth cam signal from the cas.

Guys, if i want to put a BPD engine into NA body with stand alone ECU, what is the best gearbox should i use? Is it 1.8?

This BPD engine is currently in my Ford Escort GT and having about 420 whp with current set-up.

I intend to put this engine into NA body to have a feeling of driving a rear wheel car.

Appreciate your comments.
