Default Been reading and reading... injectors?

I picked up my 2nd Miata this weekend, a 91 1.6 with the old Sebring/ Downing M45 SC. It has the mechanical fuel pressure dealeo, and an MSD ignition retard unit.

It's not fast enough.

So... I'm ordering a Mega Squirt PNP, an Innovative LC1, Walbro 255 pump, a gizmo that gets rid of the afm (from DIY, along with the mspnp) and it looks like I'll need 550cc injectors. Which ones? RC Engineering? FIC, Deatschwerks?

I've also ordered the cold air intake/ filter/ shield from Moss.

Anything I am overlooking? Know where I can get the smaller pulley that will give some added boost on the M45?

What psi are you? if your are running 9 psi or less leave it alone. Just run 1.8L injectors.

Your just buying a headache for that boost or lower. If you megasquirt for that boost.

If you are running 10psi or higher. You need it.

You will find most here hate SC systems. And there answer to everything is turbo.

What boost and setup are you running?

If you have a small nose crank. I got a pulley I'll sell you. should push 7-8 psi.

TDR racing has pulleys. also look at forum forsale sections.

I'm currently about to install a m45 on a 96 1.8.

Take a picture of the nose pulley on your m45. If you have new style you can run higher boost.

If you have old style. You can only run 9-10 psi.

8 psi if you put lower pulley on it. To increase higher with older style, you have to find a toney pulley. You have to post on m.net or clubroadster to get one.

A guy named Tony built them and stopped.

Need a picture of nose pulley.

Again if you just running a toney and lower pulley. Spend your 400 on something else.. Not going to be enough difference to notice.

I would call Gary at TDR racing before I bought any management. He's the m45 guy.

If you getting rid of that afpr setup pm me. I might be intrested.

Just for info though. That setup ran on low boost will give you total depedability. You don't tune jack, it runs on stock parameters until boost.

WBO2 is a must.

But what you are wanting is more boost.

But we need to know what boost you have now to give you direction.

I'm about to supercharge 4th miata, as well as finishing up another turbo.

Not tooting my own horn. But I'm a firm believer of putting money where it can be used most. And get the biggest bang for buck. And I've already ran both setups.

Call Savington at TSE and have him order you the smallest Injector Dynamics injectors they make. It will be the last and only set of injectors you will buy.

This is the car. Tonight I installed the upgraded belt tensioner and a new belt plus a cold air box. M45, old style manifold Borla exhaust. 68k all original car!

I'd just like to get some more power. Have ordered the fuel pump and the Innovate LC1. Was thinking I'd get the 6.2 pulley, the crank pulley and it might get a bit more boost?

Still to do: Better rubber, suspension and brakes.

Looks like a cone nose. I had to search for a Tony pulley for supercharger. They are out there. People kept them when he stopped making them. Then moved on to newer cars and superchargers. We posted on mm.net and two guys remembered they had one in their attic. But we only bought one. Mabe same guy still has it.

Do u have a boost gauge. If you are running 5-6 psi... Your stock...Lower pulley is a must.

If you are running 7-8 psi......You will have to measure both pulleys and make sure which pulley has been changed.

My brothers 90 had exhaust, k&n, and toney pulley. It would give a stock 99-2004 GT mustang a run for its money in the quarter. Almost side by side...

It would woop donuts all day.

Every two psi, its a different car.

After one or the other upgraded pulley. They say you need either water injection or a intercooler.
You will drop 1 psi from intercooler. Plus it is expensive.

But water injection you have to keep up with water levels.

62 pulley would be great. But they are flat. Everyone told me that the nose pulley was not upgradable for that model. The shaft is different. I'll take a picture tomorrow of my m45 nose. Its different.

But we asked around and found out about the tony pulley. We wanted more than 7-8 psi from lower pulley alone.

I would check boost level tommorrow with a gauge. That was you can see if its already been upgraded or not.
Or is this a fresh install? And you know the pulleys?

mm.net?

It's not a fresh install- it's been on the car for a long time. I just purchased the car.

So a crank pulley will help, but the SC pulleys TDR sells won't work?

I'll Google Tony Pulley. I have no problems keeping up with the water levels (depending on how long it lasts!)

Don't have any gauges but that will be changes soon. I'll have A/F, boost, and water temp.

Dude-

That's a beautiful car!

Having owned a once supercharged 1.8 I'll give you my personal opinion based on experience but not necessarily your specific car or experience. Do you plan to eventually go "big" on this or just drive it more or less how she sits? If you choose the latter of the two, I'd just leave it be and enjoy the extra bit of power gained from the S/C. The learning curve of installing and tuning a MS having never done anything of the sort before is pretty steep, but not to say it's impossible or anything other than fun.

The kit which was installed on my car came from a friend's 94 who dynoed IIRC 165rwhp with both the fuel and timing bandaids and ran low 14 quarters trapping around 90mph. That was a significant increase over stock and quite frankly made an excellent car. My car with the same M45 and megasquirt never made it to the dyno but was damn near dead even in a drag race against the friends 94 w/FMII turbo @ ~10psi, though he did pull ahead a little around 80mph.

Either way you go, that's a very beautiful car and ultimately should do what will make you happy. Good luck, man!

M45 is a fun car. Turbos have more top end. But the m45 makes it fel like a v8. You can also peddle wheel spin on take off.

miata.net is where I found my brothers "tony" pulley.

That car is beautiful!

I've got a 1.6 with an M45 and a Megasquirt. My $.02: yes the MS is a learning curve, but it's a very fun learning curve, and you can unlock a LOT of power and responsiveness with it, without buying a bunch of extra hardware.

If I were you I'd start with the Megasquirt, ditch that MAF, get a tune in and see where you are. It *will* be noticeably faster with just that. Your injectors will be a limiting factor, so drop in the new injectors. Unless you upgrade the pulley I'm not sure you'll need a new fuel pump. At that point you might be satisfied ... or you can then start throwing more parts at it.

That is a seriously gorgeous car, BTW - you're making me want a paint job!
