Default FIC (Fuel Injector Clinic) vs Injector Dynamics

Cleaning up the fuel system on the new mill and narrowed the injectors down to either FICs or Injector Dynamics. Both seemed to be made from Bosch injectors, but Injector Dynamics claims to have a proprietary tip/nozzle. Not sure it is worth the $100+ bucks. Input from actual owners?

The IDs will idle and drive better. We only sell IDs for a reason.

Like andrew said, they both start with different base stock injectors. Bosch makes many different injector tips, I cant find it now but I want to say its around 7. Basically all the ev14 style injectors have one of these tips, some tips might be modified for more flow but worse atomization like the ID 735 injectors. Or others might be from non-gasoline style injectors like the 2000cc which are designed for LNG irrc. Most injector companies aren't making custom nozzles for their injectors, it doesnt look like ID or FIC do, skunk seems to though. At least FIC and ID stay consistent through their range as to what nozzle they use, some companies like Donkey Power Injection use different nozzles depending on the car model even for the same size.

I agonized over a lot of this trying to figure out if I wanted detchwerks delphi based injectors, IDs or FIC. I have a set of EV14 FIC900s sitting on my work bench. If detchwerks was using the new style denso injectors in their direct fit kits in a ~1000cc size I would have gone that way because the latest generation of denso injectors is supposedly better than the EV14 injectors. They just arent available in larger sizes right now.

Interesting.
Care to link to your source of info on this?

I was always under the impression that they're almost identical (from everything I've read/heard).

I always use ID's, but the times I've used FIC I found no issues with them and they worked just as well.

I dunno

They do certainly use different nozzles, you can see that in the pictures. ID uses the standard twin stream nozzles it looks like and I cant tell which standard spray pattern FIC uses.

I get it. But in my exp they both worked great. So I wanna hear from Andrews exp.

Do you have hands on exp tuning both?

I'm with 18psi - IDs are most definitely specced out better, so to speak (i.e., much more closely matched than the FICs), but how many people on this board have the ability to tune and actually notice a difference of 0.25% or 0.50% between injectors?

Sav does, obviously, but how many on here are as good as Sav?

I'm personally running FICs, can't speak highly enough for them.

I don't think its about anyone's tuning ability honestly.

He said they idle and drive better. That doesn't sound like a statement of opinion. I just want to hear his input on how he came to that conclusion. He might be right, and I might have just been lucky with the ones I tuned. That's why I ask.

It baffles me what else it could be, but now you have me interested 18psi.

Even posts involving heated discussion between ID and FIC come down to two arguments once you strain out the insults and flaming, which are basically "ID's Injectors are tested much more strictly and matched much more closely"

I'd love to hear what Sav has to say about it now - if you are right, he knows things that would have swayed my injector purchasing decision big time.

Exactly. All the arguments and reviews I've seen really don't sway me in either direction too much. All the reviews from reputable shops/tuners are also 50/50. Both brands are definitely right up there with the best.

I know this is FIC & ID discussion but out of curiosity where does DW fit into the conversation if at all? I haven't really read anything regarding their ev14 stuff. All the information in most threads is basically. ID or gtfo. All including sav posting "we carry it so it's baller end of story".

DW direct fit for the miata are the previous gen denso. Not quite as good as the EV14, better than the EV6. They do have EV14s and all the parts to make them fit the miata you would just need to special order it as a package. Once the new style densos are available in bigger sizes and DW starts using them in their direct fit stuff, they'll be the new hot ticket I would think.

I sell neither, but have worked with both. Both FIC and ID are fantastic injectors. However I prefer FIC for 3 reasons.
(1) Value -- I see equal performance for less cost
(2) Jon Banner and crew are excellent folks to work with
(3) FIC will custom make any injector you need

I have used the older DW1000's and now use ID1000's. There was absolutely no comparison between the two. The ID's rocked the DW's in every way possible. I had a far better idle, and my fuel map looked much better after tuning.

Yeah I'm specifically talking about these

Long (60mm EV14) | DeatschWerks + USCAR Connectors : USCAR to Minitimer/Jetronic/EV1 Double-sided Connector Adapter | DeatschWerks

wouldn't that pretty much be a direct fit?

Out the door it's about ~$300 for some 800cc and they seem to have a good reputation. The only complaint I ever read was they aren't ev14 but I'd imagine the setup linked above would be pretty legit.

Still interested in vlads request for empirical data on what makes ID better than FIC.

Needs a different diameter top cap if I remember what the DW guy posted.

I actually own FIC, they came with a spec sheet and the injectors were matched very closely. They also came with their deadtimes. Easy to setup and idle perfectly.

I'm not sure where the ID or nothing started, but it goes right along with the 1000cc or nothing approach.

Yeah I guess I read it wrong. You get the 48mm injector and a 14mm top has with an 11mm oring. Not sure what the price is on the tops hats.

ID1000 here. So far no issues and works flawless.

I've got FIC 650s because that's what Reverant said worked well. Once I installed them, he adjusted my MSQ file (I'm guessing Req Fuel and Dead time, etc) and they fired right up first time. And they've been great for over a year and up past 20psi.

No experience with ID though.
