Damn, I need to try to remember to grab a CA-spec oil dipstick and tube. Yes, they're different.
You can see it here...it's a rubber coated metal loop..not brittle plastic..and instead of being a flat piece of metal, it's a flexible cable.

Well, it's in process. Currently swapping parts over to the new engine. When I say new, I mean it. Every bit of that thing is spotless (sans the dust on the outside from sitting in storage), the intake manifold is beautimus, the oil pan that came off had a bit of original oil in it...which was clear like honey, even the block under the dust is shiny. Score.
We discovered that I managed to rip a MazdaComp engine mount in half (driver's side) at some point and since I can't get one today, I'll be putting one of the new stock mounts back in until I get my hands on more MazdaComp units.
Pilot bearing is trashed, need to pick up another one today.
Transmission bellhousing was pretty damn clean with no signes of input shaft seal leaking and very, very, very minor rear main seal seepage..same for the front. Not bad for all the crap the engine has seen. That is also with a mix of running RedLine oil, Royal Purple and now Rotella synthetic oils at various times.
Hopefully I'll have some pics up soon.

Cool pattern in the center of the flywheel...guess there is some kinda vortex of air that flows around the flywheel bolts that prevents dust from building up on the trailing edge of the bolt heads. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Well....all is not well :( No driving car this weekend :(
Turns out when we were putting the assembly back in, the clutch fork became dislodged and misaligned. Unfortunately there is no way to fix this with the transmission attached to the car. I am not very happy...kinda sad really. Just more delays. I think I am going to have my friend come over with a trailer, take the car to his shop and pay him to pull the trans out and fix the shift fork.
Everything else is all ready to go...radiator & hoses, oil lines, electrical...everything.

This is how clean the engine I got is...wish I had more pics of various bits...but pictures weren't a priority when doing the install.
Valvecover underside (no I didn't clean this off, this is how it looked when I pulled it off)
upper intake manifold-
Everything looked spotless..oil pan, head, valves...ugh...I just want to drive the damn thing.

Timing belt, as far as I know, is original..with 103k on it. Car was boosted for over 80k. It looked pretty "good" when I pulled everything apart to check the timing. Funny how it's advised to replace the t-belt @ 60k...where in the state of CA t-belts are supposed to be good for 100k...yet all timing belt part #s are the same. So technically, the t-belt is rated for 100k.
Today I'll be draining the oil and trans and buying a gal of Rotella syn for the engine and 2qts of RL 75/90 for the trans.

Hopefully you'll get it back together soon. :(
