Default Stock ign dwell for 01?

After searching and failing to find anything... I need to know what the stock ECU ignition dwell is for the 2001 VVT coils.

thanks.

It just so happens that I have a couple of scope captures taken from an '02 a couple of years ago. Here's cold idle:

And here's 3000 RPM:

Ok, thanks guys!

So here is a quick question. I am looking into this for a friend who has an 01 VVT engine in his NA6. He is running Freedom ECU, and one of the downfalls of this ECU is not being able to adjust dwell. It is set at stock. He is having blow out issues with his high-comp VVT engine and is looking for an alternative ignition system.

So here is the question. If you were to chose from an LS1 coil (ideal dwell 5.6-5.8ms) or an LS2 coil (ideal dwell 5.0ms) which would be the better choice if you were stuck with the stock dwell setting? I've read some downsides to the LS1 coil running wasted spark at high RPM. This engine sees 9000RPM, so even though the LS2 coil likes 5.0ms would it be a better option to go with this? Or would it be better to try to run a dwell reducer and run Toyota COPS (which he has 4 brand new ones already)?

If Faeflora's numbers are correct, you're close enough to the desired dwell for a Toyota COP to run 'em as-is.

(Interesting that I saw much higher numbers on the car I measured. Although now that I think about it, that car was running an FFS kit. I just can't remember whether it had the timingthingy on it or not.)

And I've measured 5ms on a stock 2001 - go figure.

I dunno guys. As witnessed in my bizzaro coil thread, I don't even understand how a spark plug works.

Those are just the settings that I had in my Hydra that worked with my factory '03 ignition system and regular old NGK brk7e plugs.

Another dwell map I had that worked with the factory ignition was:

10v 6.2
11v 5.48
12v 4.72
13v 4.0
14v 3.24
15v 2.52

Zero RPM adjusted dwell trim for both maps.

That's odd because now after a bit more searching supposedly the 01 coil is 5.5ms?

Your measurement seems to be the closest to what I've found...

Now, I can go and scope the stock 01 coil we have but that still doesn't tell me what dwell the ECU is actually outputting, does it? All that does is tell me what the 01 coil would prefer to be at?

Well, that is what I'm saying, I have actually measured it myself on a stock, running, 2001 Miata.

Ahh.. Excellent that is perfect. Did you by chance measure the warm up as well? So you were 5.0ms dwell warmed up on a running car?

If that is the case the ls2 coils my be the best fit.

I don't understand the settings in my hydra then.

I'd ditch the crappy ECU if I were doing the work.

Well you're not doing the work . The purpose of this thread was not to discuss ECU choices.
