I've seen a thread with a similar pic here before. IIRC that hole is normal, but I'll let someone else chime in on wtf that is for.

HOLY detonation batman, how much timing advance were you running? PSI?

15 PSI on a GT2554R. Timing was 10° too far advanced. It was fun.

Anyone got word on that hole tho? I'm curious if this block is junk

Surprisingly good I think. Little aluminum buildup from the melted piston. I don't know what I should all get done at the machine shop to get this thing back together.

It's a very raw hole in the casting, but as hidden as it is they obviously didn't give a ---- how they look. Everyone's looks a little different.

There absolutely has to be a hole there. That is how oil gets to the bearings. The crank does not ride on the bearing itself, but rather the oil film in between itself and the main bearing. If there was no oil there, it would take all of 3 minutes to completely eat the bearings. You gotta read up on engines man.

I'm pretty sure that we're all talking about thr large, rectangular, roughly-cast hole in the block next to the cylinder bore, not the drilled oil galley in the main bearing journal.
