Default K&N oil filters. Any good?

Anyone have any experience of these? Good or bad?

I'm running them. Only because they were free with my oil. are they good? beats me. But I'd never pay the $10 price tag otherwise.

I had good experiences with them on a Triumph Daytona...this may not be true of a Miata filter though.

I did notice they seemed to be small and don't fit my oil filter wrench.

I liked that they were black, and easy to remove.

One thing I HATED now that I think about it:

The last one I removed before switching to Pureoillaters left the stinking gasket on the oil pan of the bike. Since bike was on side stand and not jack stands like I car I couldn't see the ****, and fought the new filter on.

If I had started and driven like this it would have SUCKED. That is a very quick way to lose some oil.

They claim lower restriction but do they filter as well? Any real data on filtering performance?

The motorcycle community swore by them, and I'm sure I had seen some filtering data in a thread somewhere, can't remember if it was sport-touring.net or sportbikes.net.
