To add to the original question of this thread. When I had my 1.6 head off to add ARP head studs, I noticed a little residual oil on the back of the valves so I replaced my seals with the Supertech's. Prior to that I never had any smoke issues or oil consumption, once back together the car puffs blue smoke occasionally now and burns a small amount of oil (never did prior). After this I used OEM seals in my 99 for my NB head when I had that apart and never had any issues. So when I take my 1.6's head off again I am going to use OEM seals.
