Default Torque / bore plate necessary when boring ?

I'm new to rebuilding anything over 1 cylinder. In my reading I see lots of evidence in behalf of bolting down a plate then boring so to have proper clearances under load especially on more "flexible" blocks. I want my rebuild to be done right. I've searched here and have not found very much on the subject. Can someone explain to me if the BP block needs this absolutely or just suggestively? Does the average machine shop have provisions for this or do I have to try to borrow one from FM as I hear they offer such a thing?

Look forward to learning more on the subject related to the BP block.

I actually built my own for my build. Material cost was less than $50, and I just used a bridheport to mill it. Took about an hour. Absolutely needed? Honestly don't know, but for piece of mind, priceless.

methinks you should rent it out with a damage deposit. I see someone doing that with the oil pan drill bit and tap. What a kind human being............

I believe FM has a plate that they rent out.

Correct.

My machinist said there was some distortion when the bore plate was tightened and it was "worth it".

I've heard two different answers. One machinist told me that he always uses a honing plate because of the distortion created when the head/trans is bolted on, which makes sense. However, another machinist told me that unless you're using a honing plate along with heating the block to operating temperature (aka hot honing) it's practically useless since the bore distorts when it gets heated up. I'm not a machinist through..

Do you still have the plate and want to rent it out? I've yet to still pull the motor but wanted to know if I could put you down as a yes or no on that as I check of things I'll need to arrange to complete my build?
Let me know what it's worth to rent out and or a deposit in case I use it as a 4 cup holder.

Yes its available, sorry. Let me check on what shipping costs average out to be. Right now I'm thinking its gonna be close to $350 shipped, but $175 of it is a deposit. I know its a little more than flying miata, but I'm not charging a $500 deposit. Good for one month rental, (month beginning on the date recieved ) if not returned after one month, $30 weekly interest acummulates, to a total not to exceed $300 (10 weeks late) at which time the debt will need to be taken care of.

Does that sound agreeable? I'm a little tipsy right now, but in my current state, I think its fair.
