Default Mazdaspeed valve cover

Sorry this is a bit of a dumb question but there isn't any difference between the Mazdaspeed miata valve cover and the standard 01-05 valve cover other than the pretty powder coating right? They both use COPs right?

the Miataspeed valve cover differs from the standard 01+ covers. The ms is more like th 99-00 cover

Yeah... there is no difference other than the entire VVT assembly that the 01-05 uses and the MSM does not. The MSM valve cover is transferrable to the 99/00 cars...or a 94-97 since it has provision for the rear CAS.

Both use the same coils but the covers are pretty different from each other. MSM does not have VVT, thus its valve cover is not provisioned as such. 01-05 car can't use MSM cover. MSM probably could use 01-05 cover if you but a block off plate over the VVT oil solenoid port but would be ugly.

The '99 to '00 is not COP. The '01+ are though. And then there is the VVT problem...

There's a small difference in the height of the spark plug holes on COP valve covers. It's possible this could cause problems getting the plug wires to fully seat on the plugs if you're not using a COP setup.

So a MSM valve cover would work with a 96! I might need to get me one!

Don't forget performance stickers and decals. I notice about a 5hp gain average per sticker.

Plus it's red. The fastest of all colors. Removes 2-tenths from your quarter mile.
