Default Welding stainless???with mild steel wire

So I know that welding stainless with mild steel wire and argon/co2 mix will cause it to lose its stainless properties...

But will it be more inclined to corrode than if I used mild steel?

Only reason I ask is I found a "log manifold kit" is cheaper to buy than flanges and weld els from a seperate company. The kit contains stainless els which is unfortunate.

Ultimately I plan to ceramic coat the manifold so I'm inclined to buy the kit, mig it and coat it.

it's not just it stainless properties, the weld will expand and contract at a different rate inviting the potential for cracking at the weld joint. proper gas and wire is recommended.

Link to said kit? If it contains ebay in it its probably not a good idea.

Stainless wire and the appropriate tri mix gas, mig welds really well. Not the multi colored pretty welds, but bright shiny ones.

Mazworx - Mazworx Log Manifold Kit, 4 Cylinder #LOG4


I would usually have no problem getting the right wire and gas except I just refilled my 100cf tank with Argon/CO2 :/

Figuring the kit would be worth it even if I didnt use the WG or flange..

By the time you buy that kit, get all the other materials you need to build a jig (yes you will need one because you will warp the **** out of it while welding ) resurface flanges, buy wire and gas....you could just buy one.

Or you could weld it with the wrong wire and gas, and polish a turd until you ultimately do it right, or buy one in the end.

If I had the space or it was a miata I wouldnt be asking. I agree with your logic

Since I have limited space (supercharger has a new home..) I need to mount it lower than it could be mounted on a miata and hugging the block extremely far forward.

Buy all your parts from PRL Motorsports. They will be cheaper then the setup you are looking at.

You do know you can put stainless wire in a mig welder with that gas right?
Why are you even considering using mild steel wire again?

You also don't need to use stainless wire. It's a should situation. They wouldn't make it if it wasn't ....Aww never mind. Do whatever you think will work. It's obvious your mind is made up. I just know what was recommended to me, and it worked great.

I have doing that before. It had instant heavy oxidation that didn't wire brush off.

Looking at tacking it with 75/25 and then going to a friend to tig it with trimix.

After I get it tig tacked I'll remove the mig ones.

Or I should just buy mild steel ones and be finished

Did you even look at the link I posted to PRL Motorsports? They are cheaper then the site you are looking at and have better flanges. I can guarantee that.

Also if they are Tig welding, shouldn't they be using 100% argon and not a trimix?

I did. I even called to see if that hey had the turbo output flange but they don't make t25 flanges :/

Ideally wanting to shop at over place but might have to give up on that

Do you mean the flange for the downpipe? I sure as hell know they make t25 inlet flanges.

If you just mean the down pipe flange, then order that from ATP turbo.

Tig with trimix?

It's clear you really don't know what you're doing and neither does your friend if he is using trimix for tig.

If you're having a problem with wire feed stainless and 75/25, you need to set the machine up properly, and prep you work properly.

We build tanks out of stainless that are filled with extremely corrosive liquids and hold a tremendous amount of weight(pressure) with this process and have great success.
