So when I pull and replace my engine I want to put AN braided lines wherever I can. Because... it just looks frikkin cool.
How hard is it to assemble them? I guess that you need special tools to put them together. I've seen people do things like using braided lines in place of coolant hose, vacuum tubes etc. How do they attach the lines to non threaded fittings? Is there a special end that can clamp down on unthreaded fittings? |

It's not hard to assemble them.
Re: cutting the lines, wrap tightly w/ electrical tape and cut w/ an abrasive disk, take off tape and assemble end fittings. I like them for some applications (oil lines for turbo, fuel etc...) and not others (water lines), the SS jacket will rub through anything it touches and you'll stab this sh!t out of your fingers on the cut end of the hose during assembly. |

i had a hell of a time doing my turbo drain line, ended up giving it to a muscle car drag guy at work after many failed attempts and damaged fingers. i never got to see him do it but he brought it back to me done about 5 minutes later. they hold up to a lot but like mentioned above will eat through anything.

I use nylon braid. Easier to assemble, doesn't cut through stuff. Wrap it in FlameGuard where it needs it (near the turbo). My water lines and turbo drain are nylon AN, my turbo feed and oil cooler lines are stainless AN.

I wouldn't bother with AN on the radiator, unless you just want to spend the money-coolant system isn't under a huge amount of pressure requiring AN...they sell stainless hose kits that you use clamps on then that gets covered up with a nice looking screw on cover. Summit Racing sells them along with a good selection of AN fittings and braided hose-both stainless and nylon.

I hate making AN lines. My dad always handles that while I weld something else.
I had 2 AN drain lines that I know fit (they came off my car). I reused one of the drains when I dyno tested my BEGI/FM replacement mani. I took off both cause I didn't know which one would work best with that setup. Anyway, when the time comes to reinstall the twins, I can't figure which drain line goes where or the orientation. It took me 2 hours to figure it out and those bitches still rub on hard stuff. Standard hoses are better, or pay someone else to do it. Life's too short.

Aeroquip, Earls and Russel are the biggies. I hope you're rich btw, AN hardware is not cheap and you need many pieces. |
