Long time no talk. Been busy lately but i got out to the track, not autocross the 1/4 mile lol. Did 14.3sec at 102mph. Personally i was aiming for 12sec but i had a few problems. My boost controller wasn't working so it was over boosting so we took my vaccum line and ran the boost off the wastegate i think i was running 12lbs on my last 3 runs. So i am returning to the dyno this week to get it retuned so i can run 20lbs of boost. Second problem could hook at all, wheelspin everywhere or i dropped the clutch to fast and got shitty lauches with horrible reaction time .639seconds lol. Be easy on me first time at the track. And a couple runs i missed second gear or thrid, its kind of hard shifting at 8000rpm with 12lbs of boost. But hopefully i can get it down pat next time im returning in 2 weeks. Anyone know any good drag tires. I was thinking of buying some 15" steelies and throwing on drag tires i can get rims for 25$ ea but the tires are like 180$ a piece...and if theres anyone in the ontario region come join next week we go to cayuga.
any suggestions would help me out for quicker times!

You can't launch for shit.
![]() What's your 60 ft look like? For comparison, I used to run a 13.8 @102 with my old Greddy setup at just over 200 hp and on "Beijing Tyre Factory" all season tires (came with the car. LONG gone.) |

If you are going with 15" wheel, there is a 22" tall Mickey Thompson Slick that I am currently using. In my experience, using slicks will eliminate the tire hop that radials produce. I have used the Nitto drag radials before, and have had good luck with them. They will fit on a stock miata 14" and I have produced good 60' times with those, however I still get wheel hop. Wheel hop is a good way to break axles, rear ends, and transmissions.
Do not go with a tall tire unless you plan on lowering your differential gear ratio substantially

I have heard that some drag radials act more like a slick in the sidewall. I have never tried them however. |

That's pretty impressive...really fucking impressive actually...but it sounds like your powerband is way up there. You're probably launching at not much more than 100lb ft. A turbo miata with line lock/step limiter will launch at 2-3x the axle snapping torque. You can run more pressure, but then why bother with slicks.
Yeah, they'll flex a bit, about as much as a radial can. No wrinkling like a slick though. |

My car is currently on the motor, and the best has been in the mid to high 1.8s. I have learned one very important trick when drag racing a miata. As I began to lighten the car, the car got taller and taller. This put a lot of angle in the rear axle. It got to the point where I would break an axle on the first pass. I broke a few axles before figuring it out. When the car had nitrous and was a lot faster and heavier, I never broke an axle. I need to put springs in the car to correct the problem.

Well, if that won't break parts then I'm safe. Thanks! A redline dump on with nitrous/slicks must be pretty violent, yes?
Spill the beans. What's the secret to low 60' in a miata? What HP do you think you had on spray? |
