Default limited access to classifieds

I've gone back and forth on this for awhile, but have implemented a post threshold of 20 to post to the classifieds.

We want to avoid the potential problem of people coming in solely for the purpose of selling something, never to return or contribute anything else to the community again. This is a service to our loyal members and we don't want to dilute it (or pollute it) with "hit-and-run" posts.

If you're a "Newbie" member, as soon as you've posted at least 20 messages anywhere else on the forum, the category will be visible to you and we welcome your posts there. All members will be able to view and reply to existing threads.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation on this.

Good call Philip, I like the idea. This will also help to prevent a bit of fraud (I'm sure quite a few of us have been ripped off atleast once on miata.net classifieds!

An idea: perhaps it should be viewable to everyone, just only members can post. This may help some of ours sales.

It is viewable to everyone, only members with 20+ posts can create threads, everyone can reply to threads.
Fraud was also a concern, you have to wonder about someone with 10 posts and every one is in the for sale section

But then again they would have to make another 20 posts before they can rip people off again hahah :gay:
Let me think about it, I try not to get involved, but I guess in some situations I'm all for it.

They'd have a hard time making a new account if I IP ban them.

I used to use the old Miata Greddy Forum (don't even remeber the name!) up till about 2004 sometime. I put about 1000 miles on my car in 2005 so I have been out of the loop. I'm going Spec Miata so all of my street parts got to go. I was advertising my suspension parts on Miata.net and someone recommended that I come here with my turbo parts.

Chad.
no, it's nobody specific. classifieds has been growing and I've noticed a trend, that's all.
Trying to look out for the best interests of our members, all too easy to get ripped off on the net, most of the "regulars" we know...

Yes. Guest viewing is off on a lot of forums.

miata.net is a business, that's all you need to keep in mind when you consider their classifieds policy.

Yes, I know and it's OK by me... The EvolutionM is also a business, but they seem to be happy enough with the $$ from their commercial advertisers

There's nothing wrong with being a business, just admit it and move on. Don't try to front like you're not like .net tends to do.

I run google ads, I get a check every what, year maybe tops. But the 100 bucks a year I get offsets at least the annual cost of the vB license.

hell if we were large enough to turn a buck you better belive I'd be on it.
