Default MiataTurbo.net VIP (very intelligent person) lounge.

Basically, this place has gone soft.

There has been a ridiculous influx of newbs asking the same stupid questions in lots of threads in the last few weeks. People insulting admins for "being mean", and asking whether eBay kits are good - in the thread where we talk about eBay kits being total ****. It sucks. This place used to be a smelting pot of intelligence, grammatical excellence (with the occasional magna post) and generally very good benchracing engineering discussion. I don't know what is causing it, but it seems like every 2nd or 3rd thread I open is someone asking how to install a clutch or whether their GReddy turbo will bolt up to a WRX downpipe and the manifold from a Mazda 323 GTX.

We talked a while ago about writing up a test that you had to pass in order to access a VIP section, so I've decided to write it. My aim is 30-50 questions. They are designed to be retardedly easy for someone who has turbocharged a car before, or knows what they are talking about, and damn near impossible for a newbie. The idea is that you'll either breeze through this quiz in a minute, or you will spend hours researching the answer to every single question. Either way, we end up with a section where only the most knowledgeable members chill, and we can talk about things like intelligent reroute diagrams and post-exhaust water injection and really cool **** without sifting through piles and piles of HAY GUYZ WIL MI FRIENDZ PONTEACK TRBO WORK ON MI MIATA AND O YA I ONLY HAVE $6 TO SPEND ON THIS PROJECT SO U BETTER HELP ME.

So how about a section that only senior guys can see and post in? Someplace where really cool technical **** can get discussed. Someplace that's free from the same stupid bullshit questions that nobody is willing to search for the answers to. Once threads run their course, we can consolidate them and add them to the Useful Posts section.

Or make the entire forum the VIP section, and new guys can only post in a certain section for 6 months (or PM a mod for exemption).

Would be nice cutting right to the chase, or the good/interesting threads for that matter.

Which of the following is NOT a benefit of water injection?

a. Cools the charge air
b. Often allows more agressive ignition timing
c. lubricates the piston wall, effectively reducing friction
d. cleans carbon deposits from the combustion chamber

Which of the following is the typical exhaust path on a turbocharged engine:

a. exhaust ports, manifold, downpipe, intercooler, rear exit
b. turbine, exhaust ports, downpipe, manifold, rear exit
c. exhaust ports, manifold, turbine, downpipe, rear exit
d. hotside pipes, intercooler, throttle body

would producing boost with a supercharger be considered "spooling"

The search button has many uses. Which of the following is NOT a use of the search button?

a. knowing it is there, but being too ******* lazy to use it.
b. trying just one search before giving up and posting a thread so you can say you searched.
c. to send a message to another member on the forum
d. all of the above

The Teddy Roosevelt big ban stick needs to come down strong. I barely even post anymore because I can't stand all the bullshit threads anymore.

I'm too lazy to answer 50 questions. Can we just be voted in if we haven't ever mentioned turbo timers?

We already have a VIP section. You just weren't invited

j/k

It is not a bad idea, except for rmcelwee's turbo timer remark

Screw the test, annoying people will find a way.

Ever notice how the the most exclusive clubs/restaurants/etc.... exist but don't have any signs or an obvious entrance? Getting in is usually b/c you've been invited by an existing member? That way, even though you've created two classes of citizens, the uninvited don't even know it (aka are not offended AND aren't trying to get into something that they don't know exists.)

Oh, and to pre-empt your arguement of invitation only being a popularity contest, anyone who invites an idiot as voted by the group gets both himself and his friend banned so members would take invitations seriously.

Now they will all know where you have been hiding

They will do a search on your posts and find that half of them are unavailable
