I used to sell test answers to the football players in HS.

Hmmm.

Hey, I did a search, and I can't find the VIP entrance. Does that mean it's broken?

That way, even though you've created two classes of citizens, the uninvited don't even know it (aka are not offended AND aren't trying to get into something that they don't know exists.)

Oh, and to pre-empt your arguement of invitation only being a popularity contest, anyone who invites an idiot as voted by the group gets both himself and his friend banned so members would take invitations seriously.
And we have a winner!

How about with just a simple post count? 500 and your in. Most of the deuches lately would never make it there so we wont be bothered by them in the VIP section.

I will agree that something needs to be done. This place ain't what it used to be. For damn sure. In a years time, some things have improved. But some have no t. Overall I'd say it's went down. Way too much BS in general. We have members that don't contribute and ONLY come here to sell ****. Why? And we have tools that aren't banned. Many. And we have dip ***** that come in and insult senior members of the forums and don't get a slap on the wrist. Forum's gone to **** in several regards.

There are a couple things that would help. One, would be the test proposed. I could see that helping some. But I'm not sure that's the best approach.

Perhaps have the test so that newbs can't post anywhere but the newb section and general chat, BS, etc, until they pass the test. Make a long, hard test so that a newb would have to read and search a lot to pass it.

+1 for an "elite" member area as suggested by brgracer.

But I'm afraid that all this is because Rick want's the forum to be "big" not "good". My guess is ok bigger forums make more $$$ than small great ones.

It used to be if you made it to 50, you were accepted. Because if you were a dip ****, you'd be banned way before 50 post. Nowadays, that's not the case. We have several members here that don't have a ******* clue that have large post counts.

same as buying test answers.

of course there are morons with over 500 posts too. have you been to miata.net? not even the "over 5000" posts limit works there.

I'm not sure there's an objective minimum to be met (subscription, posts, time) so much as you just know it when you see it. example: if someone makes a video of thermostat testing they are probably qualified to be part of the "miataturbo hardcore think tank" forum.

I think what Tom said was smart. the forum could already exist and unless you're invited, you dont know about it. then when an idea in the "miataturbo hardcore think tank" is adequately developed, you publish it to a normal forum so the information can be disseminated.

perhaps invites could be probationary. and require 3 or 5 or whatever people to say "aye". or i guess "+1".

They do have the same problem and they set up a

GREAT MUST READ BEFORE POSTING! FAQ! Just links from there own site, and a few from others.

It is forever long. And i love it.

This way, I never even have to post with them.. THEY ARE BITCHES!
My cousin refuses to look up anything or post, so I am crunched for time, and have to find answers while working on his car.
That gets old............ he should know half of these questions without me looking, on job day.
But since the new Super FAQ thread, I figured out all we needed to make his setup work in a few hours.

WE NEED ONE OF THOSE, WITHOUT BS POST. And untill they have read it. no post.

Or mabe. haveing out home page start with a click link of NEWBS READ FIRST BEFORE POSTING..... Important turbo information!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I vote for more liberal use of the ban stick. Make this a place that idiots don't want to come to again and only the people who want to learn will stay and behave.

from a newb's perspective, I can live with that.

Honestly this was the impression I had of this place after lurking:

"Don't screw around, these guys know what they're doing/talking about and won't hesitate to call you out and/or ban you."

Anyone that doesn't pick up on that fast doesn't need to be here.

is there a way to make it so that noobs who are too stupid to contribute and learn will be redirected to miata.net instead of seeing miataturbo.net?
