Default Recent threads box?

Is the Recent Threads box at the top right of each page something new? If it is, how do I disable it?

I like it. It makes use for orphans fills up my 1080P 16:9 monitor perfectly.

Uh, I maybe new but I believe it is the small box in the upper right corner of the "Recent Threads" banner. Click it and it minimizes.

+∞ on getting rid of it.

Doesn't matter if you minimize it or not, the space reserved for it has created a useless blank area that wastes 15-20% of the width of my screen (1280 x 1024). If we want to see which threads have recent activity, we can click on "New Posts" like we've always done. The recent threads box is an annoyance, a solution to a problem that never existed.

I think it only was on the homepage before, but now it seems it shows up in every thread. Or is that just me?

Rick tweaked it on JP's request a few weeks ago, I wonder if accidentally or on purpose he tweaked the settings which say where it shows up. I thought it was only on the home page. I never use it though, and don't like it either.

What's up with the ads below the recent threads window? If I'm not at work I'm using my netbook so screen space matters.
