Hey guys,

New motor is all hooked up - tests positive for both fuel and spark but still doesn't want to fire up. At some points, you can hear some backfire and popping, but that's about it. Any ideas on what to investigate from here?

I'm thinking timing or vacuum, but as far as I know, even if both of those are slightly off, the car will still start, just run crappy.

The only thing I've managed to find online was if the plate behind the crank pulley was installed backwards, it won't start (We changed the TB/WP while the motor was out). I plan to investigate it but apart from that, I don't know what else to think. Could potentially mixing up the two ignitor wires that connect to the coilpack cause this issue?

Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Note that contrary to what it sounds like, the car is getting enough power. It's hooked up to an external charger. In addition, I just put in 2.5 gallons of new fuel today to ensure the tank is not empty.

Are you using an aftermarket ecu? Built for?

Are you running the 97 CAS, or the nb setup?

Never mind. Yor coil pack connections... Reverse them.

That sudden stop of cranking is a plug firing with the engine at bdc on a power stroke, with a fuel air mixture.

awesome, if pulling those wires is something you expect to be doing in the future, get some red paint and mark the one on the right; then every time you put them back on, you'll know red=right...

Mine had blue tape on one of them, and a blue mark on one of the connections. Only problem was, I couldn't see the blue with the coils bolted into place... I've screwed up the placement of the connections nearly every time I've had them off.
