Default LC-1 IN/OUT plugs

My megasqurt PNP arrived today...so the other topic is now a mute point....everything is going well except for the fact that i am running a 12.XX AFR at idle, but that doesnt sound too far off...BUT, i can't stop thinking that i read at one point that the IN and OUT plugs on the LC-1 needed to be connected to EACH OTHER, unless u were programming them or something along those lines...so before i go out and drive her around, should i use the extension cable that i was sent with the LC-1 to connect the serial in and out plugs?

NO-- definitely not. Read the manual for the LC-1. I don't have it in front of me, but one of the plugs needs the 'terminator' in it, and the other is left open and only used for programming the LC-1.

Not to be rude man, but it appears you aren't reading the documentation that comes with the LC-1 at all as the questions you're asking are covered there. This particular question is covered in their quick start guide so you don't even have to dig for it. I'm a bit concerned that the same could happen with the MSPNP and bad things could happen. Read the manual man-- it will mean the difference between a frustrating / possibly disastrous experience, and an excellent one.

i read the manual, and everything seems to be running fine, last night i wanted to make 100% sure i needed to be simulating a NB signal for the stock ECU...and today i have all of this up running and doing fine, but it kept coming to me that i read SOMEWHERE that i needed to hook the two serial plugs together, and i couldn't find it, so i figured id ask just to be 100% sure.

Thanks for all of the help though

Glad to help man, just wanted to make sure you were using the resources you had there . Also glad to hear you've got your MSPNP up and running. Congrats!

I'm running it with the cables looped, as I understood it the terminator and serial plug is used for tuning and in any other case they should be looped.

Just to make sure I hadn't overlooked something-- I just went through the entire LC-1 manual searching for every occurrence of the word 'Serial' and reading what is done with the Serial IN and OUT connections in various situations. Never once does Innovate recommend that the IN and OUT ports be hooked together on the same device.

Put the Terminator on the IN port and leave it that way at all times., and then when needed, connect your PC to the OUT port for programming/display/datalogging. When not needed, leave the OUT ported unplugged.

He speacks truth people my LC1 would not run initialy cuase of no terminator plug. So leave the Out open and the in Closed.

Then what is the double plug for? This is interesting because mine has been looped and seems to be running fine? I'll have to go read up on the innovate site.

Even though that's not how it was designed to work, and it's not int he documentation to do it that way, I suspect you may have found that it will work as it suitably terminates the bus, which is the purpose of the terminator.

Still-- I'd do it as the manual says, there may be a reason they didn't just recommend this in the first place. And even if it works... you'll have to keep up with your terminator separately-- do it as per the manual and all you have to do is plug in if you need to.

Well I took out the loop cable and put in the serial cable and terminator, and now it doesn't work. I start the car and the gauge goes full rich as normal, the comm led then goes solid and the gauge just slowly pulses the full right led.

Best of all my computer won't connect with it. I should have just left them looped.

So maybe it cooked when it was hooked up improperly?

I really don't know what it would do to have the IN and OUT hooked together-- maybe nothing, or maybe it would be a bad thing, we'd have to get Innovate on the line for that. I just hook things up according to their docs, and recommend others do the same.

Innovate is very helpful, particularly Felipe-- if you need them. You were going to want to connect to it with you PC one day, and you'd have to do what you just did to do that, and would have had the same issue then...

If you want to ignore it, maybe you can chain them back together and get it working again for now.

Others-- I HIGHLY recommended you follow the documentation that comes with the product. Terminator on the IN port, leave the OUT port open for when you want to connect with your laptop.

I had it connected to my pc, thats how I set the voltage settings to work with the NB autometer gauge.

It didn't fry, the comm led is still solid, meaning there is no problem with the sensor or unit. I think what happened was when I pulled the plugs it reset the software or something, but I won't know until it will connect.

I still don't see why they would include the looping cable if they never intended you to use it.

That's just it-- it's not a looping cable at all. It's intended for hooking multiple Innovate devices together in a 'serial chain', so you really don't need it unless you have another Innovate device like an XD-16, or an Innovate Datalogger (DL32 for example) that connects via this cable.

Alright I have the lc-1 connecting to my laptop, step 1. Now on to step 2, what are the voltage outputs for the Autometer NB gauge? I can't seem to find them. I would search the innovate forum but that damn security thing they have never works for me.

I have these written down:

1.001 v = 8.00 afr
0.010 volt at AFR 17.98

Those are set using the "use air-fuel" option.

Now when I try to put those in the software says I can't have anything less than 860.05 and 1298 or something, what the hell? I'm pretty sure my voltages just got screwed up. The NB gauge lights up the rich led's all the time but on decel it shows full lean, so I'm pretty sure pulling the plug reset my voltages.

I'd use the default settings that Innovate uses to emulate a Narrowband output-- these are on page 4 of the LC-1 manual IIRC.
