99-01 6-speed shifter compatibility
Just picked up a 00 6-speed, however, it lacks the shifter/shift lever.
What's the compatibility with these? I'm wanting to throw something on Super Cheap(tm) for a temporary solution. I've ran into all sorts of conflicting information, including one shifter that supposedly works for all 99-05 6-speeds, but another that claims it's for everything 89-01 and for all 01-05 5-speeds, but it won't work on a late-01-05 6-speed.

Well MiataRoadster breaks down their shifter options as 99-01.... Not sure if something would be different with the stock shifters that would make a 99 not work in a 00 trans...

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. Based on what MiataRoadster's specs say, I should be able to use my 5-speed shifter in the 6-speed, which is happy days for me.

(Edit) Ah hell, and then I read the specs closer. To complicate matters, all NB1/NB2 6-speed shafts have the same shorter distance between the axes of the fulcrum ***** and tip ***** vs. all NA/NB 5-speeds. - *****.

Read their specs closer. The 5-speed and the early 6-speeds have the same specifications with respect to ball size and whatnot.

IIRC the early 6-speed I put in my '95 had two locating pins in the turret while all 5-speeds only have one pin, meaning a 5-speed lever would not work in a 6-speed without removing one of the pins from the turret. That's assuming everything else about the 5-speed lever fits and works. I'm guessing that the PKM528-17-510A is a 6-speed lever for use on all 5-speeds (backwards compatible?) and the early 6-speeds, but hard to see in the picture if it has one slot or two slots to accommodate the locating pins.

I also bought a '00 6-speed. My '99 5-speed shift lever was a perfect fit for it.
99-00 6-speed transmissions have a small pivot ball on the shift lever, 01+ 6-speeds have a larger pivot ball on the shifter.
