Default 200hp question

This seems to be a landing mark very often for our cars and naturally
this is what i've been aiming for. With everything i've compiled i should
be landing just a bit short of my 200hp mark but here is my question.

Would a 200hp 1st gen miata be Strong enough to take on a Stock
2001 mustang GT with some exhaust work?

I have built a friendly Rivalry with a co-worker and we're
gonna put some money on this bet. I'm pretty positive i'll
take him but i need some inputs from anyone out who is
already putting down some power...

plz note your est. HP with
your response...

The better driver will win. They're probably about equally capable.

Hustler... I disagree. A 200hp miata will run mid 14's if not a little quicker all day. which is just about where the mustang is. So I agree with ben that driving skill will come into play

Considering they have approximately the same power to weight, the gt has 9" of rubber in the rear.

If stock tires are being used driving skill is needed, but if a miata has good performance tires and some width like 205-50-15 I think it will out grip a mustang anyday. And just a side note driving skill is always needed.

Yes, but a lighter car won't need quite as much rubber to hook up as a heavier car.

A stock GT is nothing. I'm at exactly 200rwhp and they are no problem on the street.

On the track, even worse, i can enter/exit the corners much faster than them.

funny thing that 3 guys from work praise their mustangs and look down on my miata. I agree with the whole grip thing, i have crappy tires in the rear but at the track where i go they use that sticky stuff on the track so that helps alot for grip...
I know for a fact i can take him out any day on the curvy road but i'm talking
about drag racing here...

LOL.... in that case my confidence is higher...
I mentioned a drag race meet and some co-worker are
interested in the results, they're all wanting to make
this race into a huge gamble... I wanna win, lol...

IDK if that was clear but everyone is looking fowards
to two of the "car guys" to battle it out...

w/ my turboII with just racing beat exhaust..(212hp/210tq) I ran 13.4 and 01 stangs aren't as fast as everyone makes em out to be. Plus the RX7 is packin a bit more weight than a miata.
