Default 2000 miata fire...wtf?

Was driving home two nights ago from canton ohio drove there 1-1/2hrs and spent about 10 minutes there then drove the 1-1/2hr back got about 15 minutes from home and the car started jerking and sputtering like it wanted to stall ou pulled off the free way and pulled onto a little side road to pop the hood. Popped the hood n trunk to get a flash light and before I even got to the trunk my passenger started screaming to get away from the car because it was on fire!!!

We immediately called 911 and had a fire truck sent out but by that time it was burnt through the hood and the windshield was melting! Fire fighter was like well looks like there was an accelerant used in the fire...I was like well a car does get power by burning gasoline and it has to get to the engine some how...? I was like think man think! Like they were trying to blame **** on me!

Met with insurance adjuster yesterday "totaled " of coarse!! Pretty pissed loved that car!!!got great gas mileage and ran like a champ with only 42,000 on the odometer at time of fire!!!

Yea I wasn't as lucky with there being a rubber line that runs right over top of the alternator? Yea that's just screaming FIRE!!!! But only thing is now the insurance is trying to **** me on the pay off because it had a salvaged title! Wasn't in a wreck it was just a strip job then put back together in California. So I may end up still oweing on my loan still after its all said and done!

Damn man, that sucks. I saw a SR'd 240 burn up at the track one day, really gave me a reality check. Went out and bought a fire extinguisher that day. Scary stuff. I can't imagine what it's like to watch something you put that much work into burn to the ground. :(

Sorry to see the car catch.

I'll be investing in a halo setup for both the engine and the cabin.

Looks repairable honestly

those pictures have definitely motivated me. I'm stopping at the autoparts place for a small extinguisher before I head out today. Good luck fighting the insurance men.

those extinguishers you can buy in the ricer section at pepboys are completely worthless. you're better off digging a well by hand before those will ever put out a small fire.

make sure you get the insurance company to tow the car to your house so you can get your aftermarket parts off first and if any of your close friends or people that you know who own miatas who need parts you can swap out parts from you wrecked car and help others out (you can make a lil money off it as well)

my friend did this when he wrecked his car.......

and just ask me how i got a free 6 speed and 3.9 diff

Yep, they had some 2 pound bottles that fit right behind the headrest of psngr seat perfectly. It was like 15 dollars or so.

We had some training at work on fire extinguisher use. Most people had trouble putting out a small campfire with a 5lb bottle. I almost doubt a 2lb can put out a gasoline fire once it gets going.
