Easy way to access the crank lip?
After working on these cars for 7+ years now and personally seeing many botched timing belt jobs, I've come to an understanding on the timing belt/water pump mileage. If the crank lip on the block is free of oil the timing belt is as new condition. If there is coolant on the lip your water pump is going out. Is there a way to get a q-tip in there for a quick check? I've seen 80k timing belts look brand new and I've seen 80k belts that got oil on them look awful. Id rather leave a car alone that has a clean crank lip. Can I drill an access hole big enough for a q-tip without causing damage from shavings or trash later down the road?
