Because you can increase displacement, use stronger internals, and balance what rotates. Look at how much power markp and AndyFloyd get to play with. I'd take 8k rpm redline and 300-350 whp without risking destroying my engine any day.

yes, on the flip side, you also get to upgrade the transmission, diff, and brakes (whether you want to or not).

A reasonable quality rebuild usually runs $2500 or so...and then you will have to do some of the work yourself. It is true, the real answer to this question is that it CAN cost any amount...depending on what youre doing to the engine.

I agree with KFJ....I wouldnt screw with rebuilds when I can get a nice used engine cheaply.

i think crx (jason) got his '99 1.8 for $500. if you look around locally, you can find them. i'm not that impressed with planet miata's stuff nor their prices.

with anything, you can find what you want at a very good price if you have the patience and knowledge.

it's not uncommon to get a 1.8 for a few hundred $$. wasn't olderguy asking like $400 or $500 for his complete 1.8 motor and tranny?

I have one...so I guess jesus will be appearing?

Last year I sold two 60k 1.8s...complete @ $600 ea
