Folks running Amsoil MTG - and other questions
So are you guys that run the MTG using a friction modifier too? If so, what is the benefit? I'm on the 5-speed if that matters.
I'm about to refill the tranny and diff and haven't done so in a looong time - never on this Miata, haven't driven it enough. Capacities are listed at just over 2 qts. for tranny and just over 1 qt. for diff. Do I need to buy 3 qts. and 2 qts. respectively, or will 2 and 1 do it? I have a little M90 lying about that I could top off with if necessary.

I do not run the friction modifier. Give the MTG a little time to coat the synchros and wash the old stuff off.
Yes, buy the higher quantities, I needed them in both the 6'er and te rear end.
On hipo oil, I don't mix them; read my uoa data on Rotella and ASMoil and you'll see why. On crap oil it's probably fine, but te oils with more chemistry are supposedly more complex and and more sensitive to altering the chemistry.

This is actually what is prompting me to switch to Rotella in the Mazdaspeed 3. That engine is a fuel diluting machine.
I've been running Pennzoil Platinum, but after tearing into my not-quite-yet-turboed / formerly S/C'd Miata engine and seeing how dirty it was, I lost a little faith in it. Granted, I have no idea what it saw the first 60k of it's life, but I would have thought the previous owner's (claims of) Mobile1 and my PP use would have cleaned it up a bit.
Think I may send some of the MS3 oil to Blackstone and see how that car is doing, since we bought it new.

I'm in no huge hurry. I have a funnel with a tube that I can fill and let hang for as long as necessary to get every last drop.
I love this thing:

I once put a quart of 75w90 Redline on top of the quart of MT-90 I had already added to the tranny. Not only did I have to drain the tranny, I couldn't fill either one until 2 more quarts showed up.
