Or blue RTV, which is designed for use on coolant system components. That being said, it looks like you used way too much RTV anyway. Globs of that stuff can clog coolant passages and kill water pumps. All you need is a thin layer for it to do its job.

Awesome stuff. I had it left over from a VW oil pan job I did. I've used it on many things and never had a problem. Even still I used a gasket, the RTV was just for good measure. I really, really didn't want this to leak.
I'm going to go the ghetto route here because I really don't want to deal with this. I'm going to throw a bottle of subaru cooling system conditioner in there. When I worked as a Subaru tech I've seen this stuff stop head gasket leaks (that's what it's actually for). I've used it on my own cars at times for minor leaks that required way to much labor than I wanted to put into it to fix.
I can see two leaks in the pic now that I look at it. The NPT fitting for heater hose is trickling a little, and that's definitely my fault for not using teflon. However the second leak looks like it's coming from the bolt. It would've been nice for them to include fiber washers to prevent this from happening, unless I'm the only one who's had this problem. I don't remember if the bolt hole is exposed to the coolant passage. or not.
