Anyone ran a bipes n/a?
As it sits now my funds will not allow me to boost my miata, but I have a bipes from when I was going to boost it along with a voodoo box and set of 305cc injectors.
The voodoo and injectors are not of much help right now, but I've read about people using the bipes for more base timing while running na. Some guy ran something like 20* base timing with the bipes pulling 8*.
Has anyone on here ever tried this? Does it have a noticeable effect? I'm just angry that I have a bipes sitting on my desk not doing anything. Oh and plus I run craptacular cali 87 gas.

doesn't the bipes only pull timing when in boost?
sell the bipes. spend $200 on a megasquirt kit, build it yourself. run your timing however you want with the 12x12 timing table
then you'll be ready with all the engine managementy you'll ever need for when you can afford the turbo. and you should be pretty good with the software by then

Hmmm... not sure. I ran 14* base for years and years on 87octane. I know that using premium allows you to run 16*. If you have access to 93octane, just keep bumping up the timing until you start to knock. It's winter now, which means lower intake temps, so you might have to back it off a degree in the summer. Cali 91oct plus a gallon of Toulene will probably get you safely to 16-17*.
What have you done in the way of getting cold air to your filter... that helps a lot.
The Bipes will pull timing based on RPM and IAT. It taps into the stock air temp sensor mounted in the AFM. It does not sense boost.

Well I have a cowl intake setup with shop vac tubing, so slightly cooler intake temps.
I'd like to go with MS, but as of now being in cali is a major *** ache with smog and carb. Thats a good idea though, maybe I should look into the other piggy solutions and see if I could hook one of those up to get used to before boost.
But I may try the bipes for now as I already have it. That dyno at 22* base looks considerably better than the others, but the guy never mentions what octane fuel he uses, I wonder if I could pull off the same with cali 87?

I am not boosted yet and I have a Bipps installed now. My timing is set to 18+ and the crystal is changed in the computer and I run 87 octane. The Bipps pulls out as little as possible as slowly as possible. Results ? I get better MPG, 2-3, and I can feel the difference when I alter the Bipps settings. It has seemed to improve low and mid range torque as well. I have no data to back this up, so consider the source.
If it seems not to work for you it is a fairly easy un-install, but you can not simply unplug it.
I should try 22 degrees.

with high base timing and a bipes low and mid range should be better then stock and the motor shouldn't run out of breath up at high rpm's.
the PO upped the timing on my car and didnt tighten the CAS bolt so timing crept way up. i found the car sounded like an old MGB pulled good down low but ran out of umph up high and then started pining a lot, thank god i was near a gas station that had 100 octane!
