Default Anyone run a cherrybomb glasspack?

Im thinking of doing a downpipe to a cherry bomb and then dump it before the diff. Im intrested in how they sound, they look very non restrictive and cheap!

Nope, but plan to. Well, they are glass packs. I plan to run as many feet of them as possible to the rear, then a muffler. FWIW, the sound deadening affects grow exponentially with glass packs. For example, compare a 2' and 3' glass pack, the 3' cuts out almost twice as much as the 2' one. For what your doing, try to get a 4' one with a turndown at the end. They used to make 4' glasspacks, but I haven't been able to find them. Still, I plan to squeeze 6-7 feet of them into my exhaust system.

dont use the cherry bomb. it's louvered like a cheese grater inside. reduces flow significantly compared to a perforated core.

maybe a few more bucks, but worth it.

Y8s, isn't that a resonator, not a glasspack?

I looked inside the cherrybombs at pepboys, they dident have louvers, it was just straight through with holes (not louvers).

How about two running down the sides like an old school hot rod?

take a look at lightweightmiata.com. Member rmcelwee has some videos on that site as well as youtube. Sounds pretty ok for such a simple system, I think.

Yeah...which means it wont restrict flow or get the raspy *** sound....so its better all the way around.

its a straight through muffler, if used in conjunction with another muffler, it then becomes a resonator.

Well, they don't do much compared to a glasspack. I think it's 1/3 the sound reduction of a glasspack, and most will admit even glasspacks don't do that much. Granted it doesn't restrict flow as bad, but at the consequence of less sound reduction. Not better all the way around is the point. Each has its perks. Glasspacks wear out, resonators don't.

what's the difference? it's a cylindrical muffler or a cylindrical muffler painted red. they are the same. perforated flow tube surrounded by fiberglass roving encased in another metal tube.

just make sure whatever you get isn't louvered.

yeah, robert did a dump-bomb just like you describe. dont expect it'll be quiet!

Glasspacks use fiberglass as the sound absorbing media. Resonators use steel mesh, or steel wool. The steel doesn't absorb sound as well, but it last longer. They are not the same.

if anyone cares...

crushing a 3" pipe by just a half inch results in a 7.7% loss in flow area.

A crush bent 3" will still only flow like a ~2.5".
