Arrrrghhh... upselling pisses me off.
Little help, boys?
I picked up a set of used Konis with new NA upper mounts/bumps/boots; also purchased a set of used FM springs.
I'm ready to put these things in and rock on.
http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=261658 Is the Mnet thread. I should have known what I'd get out of it...
7.50/ea for new bumpstops? Not too shabby, $15 would get me a little more travel and comfort.
Except I need spacers for the Koni's. $5 each. Shaikh swears I should do all four shocks (even though the front bump travel seems fine), so that's $20 for spacers, $30 for bumpstops, and oh, don't forget the dust boots; can't reuse the boots on the NA mounts, since it's all once piece and the diameters are different... There's another $20. Oh, and shipping and tax and ...
So now I'm at $90, instead of $15.
Now, I know this hobby is expensive, and I shouldn't bitch about the extra $75... but it irks me nonetheless.
Anyone care to chime in?

my konis came with spacers. i bought his and never used them i think i pitched them.
the bumps are a good idea, you dont really need the boots.
you can make your own spacers....they cost him a whopping .5$ each.

feels so much better hitting his bumps than stock ones. what im saying is i had spacers that came with my konis from the factory. he said they were good enough and i didnt need an extra 5mm. go to freakin ACE and by a shitload of plastic washers that fit untill you get the right height (5mm??). that's all they are.

Yeah, I gotta side with Shaikh on this one. Ok, so the spacer itself consists of $0.05 worth of plastic. He's gotta buy it, measure it, cut it, stock it, document it, advise you on it, process your order for it, and ship it. Takes time. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask people to pay for that.
For a while, I was making and selling spring perch spacers to a few people. Basically a copy of what I built for my own Bilsteins- a little aluminum ring to go around the shock body and raise the spring perch up a bit. It's about $2 worth of material that took me about an hour each on the lathe to make. It just wasn't worth it- I can't charge people enough for that little piece of metal to justify the time it takes me to build it.
