Drying An A/C Reciever..
So I've had an A/C line off my car that hooks to the dryier/receiver for 3 days. I'm sure it's full of moisture by now. I'd replace it but nobody has it around here. So, here's my question. Could I bake it in an oven to drive out the moisture? Would it work? Anyone ever done it or heard of doing it? Got a better way? I've seen people bake electric motors to drive moisture out of the windings.

Here is the deal, moisture in you’re A/C system reacts with refrigerant to form an acid. This acid will eat away all the aluminum pieces from the inside. This can be expensive; as most of you’re A/C parts are aluminum. That said, yes you can bake a receiver dryer in the oven to dry it, pulling a vacuum also helps remove the moisture. You just have to ask you self, is the $25-$55 (52.99 Autozone.com) you save worth the risk of significant damage if the moisture remains in the system.

Ordered one from NAPA today. It was 14 plus shipping to overnight it here. 44 dollars total. Oh well, I need it NOW. That's the only reason I was considering baking it. Nobody here had it or could get it, but turns out NAPA could get it from a manufacturer in Texas.

I have found in the past that vac will do the trick. When I was trained (as a mechanic) I was always told that as long as they haven't been open for more than a week or so then 30 min. of vac will do it. Mind you for $22 I would certianly replace it on my own car, but if you have the charging equipment yourself you could get it going for the moment and just change the drier when it arrives.
Just what I was taught, take it for what its worth
