Default Oops. Ebay jdm motor?

Rod knock on #4. Oops. Only 12K miles on turbo (37K total!) but all of those miles were very hard. And I think there may have been a timing miscommunication, so I was tracking with over advanced timing across the board. Either way, I want a nice 1.6 motor to swap in while I take my time building my motor. Even if I only get another 12K, its all good.

Are the ebay JDM 1.6 motors ok? Anyone used one? (Years ago, I helped put some in some rx7s and they were great.) How do I guarantee I don't get a short nose crank or noisy HLAs (mine were always loud, always hated it)?

I want a warranty but I would really prefer not to have to use it.

Thanks.

I am also thinking the m-tuned coolant reroute might be a good idea this time around.

Might be easier/cheaper to just get on locally. Ebay ones are like 600$, and need another 300$ or so for shipping.

Even this might be a better option.

I was going to suggest a local salvage yard as well. Also why not built the block of the one you blew while you're at it??

No miatas in these parts, I mean no miata parts in these junk yards, and if there was, they would be high mileage and have been under 10 feet of snow for a few seasons. I want to build my engine, but spend a little money at a time so as not to be missed, if you know what I mean, and to limit downtime to a day or two at a time.

JDM motors are supposed to be higher C/R than USDM.

I call BS on CR.

Anyways, my imported motor was a POS that had horrendous blow-by which comsumed about 1qt every 500 miles. It only lasted nearly 2 years to the date from install. The pistons ultimately melted....

So what your saying is that it is a crap shoot, like all my other options. At least I will have control over my own engine build up.

So far $819 shipped engine and trans.

BTW, car still drives great, just starting to not sound so good.

Yeah I was not very pleased with that motor. But the head off that motor on a random block has lasted another good 2 years without issues.

Have you searched car-part.com? You can get one from there for $300 while you build up your other engine. A JDM engine in nothign special, especially if you are going to take it right back out after you build the other engine. It will be a huge waste of money.

Sucks that there is no one local who can source a cheap engine and do the work.

Found a guy up here who imported salvage cars from the US, some Miatas among them. So I got a long nose 1.6 with 140k (km) for $300, new 1.8 clutch everything installed and working for $750. The engine isn't anything special but for that price who cares.

All of those engines are two hundred miles away, which is fine but I don't seem to have any time anymore now that my wife works, not complaining, I think. I am going to try a local yard where I know someone who.. and see if they can deal.
