Default Cheese and Wine?? I think not...

We had our annual Miata club "Tech Day" this past Saturday. This is a great example of why I'm a member of this club.. Wish we had our usual 'photo guy' on duty but he was out with a kidney stone. (OUCH!!)

Got a chance to try out a new toy which I haven't had the time to fire yet, the AR-15.

It became a tradition to bring out some arms and take out some stress. Someone came with Osama Bin Laden targets. We pretty well made him dead. Normally we'll shoot trap after but I had to leave early this year so we kinda ran out of time. For anyone curious, I'm the balding guy in sunglasses and yellow/blue AF shirt.. The last two pictures is our club "president" (Even though we don't do democracy crap in our club.. its just for FUN...) who served in Vietnam when he was about my age. He hadn't shot an M16 since and wanted to squeeze off a few rounds. Loaded up 5 rounds in the magazine and handed it off to him, returned to my car to grab my cooler with some water. Made it about halfway back to the table and heard all five rounds fired off in very quick succession, then see him riding off on a bicycle.. Must've had a flashback!!

After the shooting its dinner time which is usually a large amount of BBQ which a local club member normally smokes himself in his competition smoker. This year we had it catered however.

The Rifle is a Bushmaster AR-15 lower with Vietnam era Colt M16A2 upper. Sadly I don't have a Class III/FFL, so its only single shot semi-automatic.. Funny, its 3 small parts which would make it fully automatic. Kansas law still states even if you're FFL you can't modify a firearm which wasn't manufactured and sold fully automatic.

Anyway just wanted to share my fun weekend.

Which club is this?

Miatas, guns, and BBQ sounds like a winning combination to me. I would haved loved to join in. Unfortunately, I had to volunteer at an Alumni event on Sat so I couldn't have made it anyway, but maybe next time?

That truly is a great combination. I took part in one today, and it wasn't guns or Miata (unless you count vacuuming and treating my leather). I want an AR15 but can't swing the price right now. Hell, I couldn't even make myself spend $300 on a Beretta Tomcat last week, I know an AR will have to wait.

There is a club in KC other than ours? News to me...

We're the members of what USED to be KCMiata. The other "club" (if you can even call them a club?) contains the people who attempted to overthrow and/or destroy everything we tried to accomplish a few years ago for what I remember was because they wanted a dealership closer to where they live.. At that point we ditched the politics of it, membership fees, voting, etc and we just hang out as a group of friends. Our typical small turnout is 4 times larger than the biggest KCMiata meet ever could've been.

Yes most of the members are older people but still really great to hang out with. I'm not even the youngest or even only young person that attends! You should totally come sometime!

I can relate. Buying some ammo I priced what they run new... Typically START at $1099 around here. It'd make you sick to know what was paid for this rifle... it was literally a couple hundred dollars!!

Looks like your people are overcompensating for driving Miata's! Hiding something are we?

Good club. Well done. Looks like a good way to spend the afternoon.

Normally there would be a TON of miata shots.. He got like, three...

Owner of the property, Rick (The older big guy in the center of photograph with glasses) bought this white miata off Craigslist for $300 from a "Monkey-Mechanic" who destroyed the Original engine having no idea what he was doing with it. Bought a new engine for $100 and even got it delivered for free. Engine on stand infront of the car out of picture. Giving the car to his wife, they have a 2007 MX5.

This is CRNRHRD who lurks on here and rarely posts. Hes the "Club Mechanic" who I met in HighSchool and knew absolutely nothing about cars. He got me obsessed with Miatas and in turn, I taught him about mechanics and cars the same way my brother taught me. Told him what to do and handed him the tools, now theres very little on cars he can't handle. I created a monster!! This black car had a waterpump replaced last year, but started making some TERRIBLE knocking noises on the way to our meeting.

20 Miatas total showed up with about 50 guests. Several miatas were missing for this picture out on a short activity. Not a shabby turnout considering it was around 95 degrees and 100% humidity, plus it rained all morning into bout 2pm.
