Default Leaking Exhuast Gases Internally on an engine...?

looking to pick up this miata for 1250. They guy said he had the engine rebuilt and now a "local" shop has found "leaking exhaust gases that are internal to the engine". My question is uhhh the hell does that mean. When i read it I think sticky valves or bad valve seals. Other then that and say fucked up rings any ideas on other area's that "exhaust gases" could be leaking from internally to the engine?

If it's only $1200, just assume it needs a new motor. Score one for $350, spend an afternoon putting it in. Clean the car up and sell it for $3 grand. You just doubled your money.

that usually means a head gasket issue... that's one of the ways to test for a head gasket leak is hydrocarbons in the coolant. AKA...internal exhaust gas leak from the cylinder to the cooling system.

Ahhh shizz that kills that idea no way it would make it 300 miles home on the freeway without warping the **** out of the head.

About an hour North West of Seattle Washington. Talked to the guy he said it has overheated least one time.... Im thinking warped head along with the head gasket... So anyone in the NW quick grab if you want it.

Yes, hopefully it's not sold yet, I've been trying to contact the guy for the past 2 days since he posted the ad. I don't have a car right now and this is just perfect, hopefully it's an easy fix.
