Tranny had unknown miles and sat for an unknown amount of time before I put it in. It was in the car for about 16 months and ~10k miles. To make things worse, I traded my extra tranny to Bob Bundy for a custom exhaust. I'm pretty sure he's blown it up by now too lol.

Picking up a replacement tomorrow with 198k on it which should buy me enough time to save up for a 6-speed. At this point i'm thankful it wasn't the diff cause I really really couldn't have afforded to replace that right now. Car would have definitely sat for months before I could afford a replacement.

I'll take pictures of the internal carnage when I get it out. Sounded like a grenade went off inside it. I really hope all the damage was contained within the gear box and didn't **** anything else up.

Startin to scare me. Mine started making the baseball card noise you had mentioned earlier and i has no money to buy a new tranny. :(

How much did you get the tranny for? I've got a junk yard friend and a SM friend if you ever need another cheap 5spd or 1.6diff to at least get the car running again.

That sucks man. I'm sure you could sell the transmission for $80 again, even for a 5spd that's a good steal, or just put it in anyways, you said yours made noise. Make a wtb ad in the classifieds, I bet someone on here especially will sell their 1.6 for free+shipping, which might be $100 or so. Just slap a shipping label on it and send it, if it's damaged use your housing, lol.

If it was the diff, why did it only work in 4th? Hopefully you don't have a blown diff AND a box of neutrals!

Maybe you guys are used to pulling the trans down. I still find it a pain. The good side is these transmissions are LIGHTWEIGHT little things. Makes it worlds easier to just lift it and throw it in while laying on the concrete

Ya I really cant explain the weird transmission issues but the fluid came out clean and there was nothing stuck to the magnetic drain plug so i'm pretty sure i'm an idiot and the tranny is fine. I must have been convincing myself in my head that it was the problem at the time.

Have you looked at it yet? If not, put the back in on jackstands as high as it can go safely, pull the driveshaft, start the car, and run it through the gears. They will let you know if something is going on in the transmission also.

Good luck!

Well, my car rattles... and it rattles really ******* loud!!!! Depress the clutch, and voila! Noise goes away.
I have already replaced the entire clutch, pilot bearing and throwout bearing with no good results.

The question is, how much "overfilled" does the trans have to be, and also, will it be damaged if I overfilled it by lets say 1/2 a quart? The rattle bugs the hell out of me, ESPECIALLY in drivethrus!

Read the whole thread before posting newb.

<----hypocrit

Wayne, don't pull the driveshaft and try to go through the gears, you'll be puking oil. If the diff jammed up when it broke it couldve taken the tranny with it, or vise versa.

Well the guy who sold me the tranny is going to trade it back for 1.8 axles and driveshaft straight across and another local guy has a torsen for 350 bucks. Borrowed some money and i'm ready to make it happen and not worry about my diff anymore.

I'll be able to pay back the debt when I sell my Begi mani/downpipe and a few other things.

I cant wait to take the diff apart and check out the damage. Will have a new thread with pics.

I still have pctures of mine, it was icky. Most of the pinion teeth were gone, and large sections of the bevel gear. Nice find though, hopefully your Transmission is good.
