felt pretty good driving home 3 hours on this:
notice how long it took to take to redline... the throttle sticking was just the icing to the cake.
diff lost all fluid on the drive up. lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I have had a similar whine on my wife's 97 for over a year now. Is your whine just under decell or during accel too? With the 97 I get the worst whine between 50-60 under power and then it gets quieter above 70mph. It goes away completely when I get off the gas. I also had poly bushings on the diff for a while which made the whine 10 times worse.
If you do not hear any mechanical grinding sounds and had a pretty clean fluid change I don't think you have to worry about it failing any time soon. That is assuming you are not dumping the clutch at every light and assuming you are still running the stock 1.6 naturally aspirated. Having the backlash set too tight can cause whining too.
My 91 has so many whines and noises I quit worrying about it a while ago. Just make sure you pay attention to the noises and start worrying if they change or get worse.

Thats exactly what mine sounded like. Notice how you don't hear it in 4th?
My car honestly felt like I gained 50hp when I finally swapped it for one with only 70K on it. No more whine, turbo spools faster and I had to add tons more fuel in boost (ie, actually making more power)

Mine probably has around 70k miles on it now. When I bought the car it had 44k, so probably 20k miles since turbo'd.

Vash, I remember watching this video and thinking, "Oh good. My miata isn't the only one with a whiny trans." Mine sounds exactly like that. It hasn't always, but it has for at least a year. I think it started doing that a little while after I went FI.
