I made my block off plate and tapped it for 1/4 npt. I used the tape type thread sealant. I'm worried that I should used something else. IF it leaks, then it will be a pain to get to. Should I used some type of loctite sealant instead of the thread tape?

In my experience, Resbond is the best thread sealant I've ever used. Its worked flawlessly on brake, fuel, water, and exhaust fittings.

Where do you buy the great white compound? Looks like it would be good to have a can on hand.

I think Home Depot carries it. It's sort of the standard in the natural gas industry. It's always supposed to stay moist, and after a year on my turbo water fittings, it was still wet.

Yep. Ace, HD, Lowes, etc. you can get it in a smaller tube as well, which is what I use.



Good stuff. Messier than tape, but IMO easier to get a proper seal with.

There is also thread compound in the parts store next to the thread locker. It's in a white tube instead of a blue one. (permatex)

What he said. But for permanently mounted fittings like this, I usually will get a little JBWeld on the threads.

Tape is fine,we use it on all our tapered threads.JB weld for the super strong,silver brazed for permanent...I used silver brazing.

My fuel line fittings are leaking on my rail from the shitty Jeg's crap I bought. I'm going to redo them. FYI.

I made the mistake of using it on an oil pressure sender, the thread tape just broke down and it started leaking. Used some Stag jointing compound and it has been fine since.

Very strong but messy. Also has to be done correctly the first time as this stuff is near impossble to break free. i used this to seal the fittings on my oil cooler, and patch a gas leak before.

Wear nitrile gloves when using this stuff; it doesn't wash off your fingers, it wears off over time! BTDT
