Pretty happy with my Fidenza shifter. Not sure if I spelled it correctly.

My roommate has some cheapass ebay solid chrome one, works fine. Cheap and dirty, paid $50 for it i think. I personally don't like it but that's just because it's heavy feeling and cold as hell during the winter.

Oh, the upgrade I found better than the short shifter was going to a voodoo shifter ball instead of the oem grip.

+1 For the VooDoo ****. I just got mine 2 weeks ago and it was an incredible improvement over any other **** i've ever used on any car. Thanks to the G/F. Now that i think about it she's a darn good woman. Buys carparts for my bday and removes wax without whining a word. Best part is all she wants is some bedroom time in exchange which is a kickass deal.

I bought an M10x1.25 die (I think it was 1.25, might have been 1.5) and tapped the shaft further down, then chopped an inch off of the OEM shifter. That plus a Voodoo **** makes for a super-cheap "short" shifter. I really like it.

so does a shorter shift really help all that much? I find that the stock setup is just right and I really wouldnt want it longer or shorter.

+1 on DIY. I didn't actually do mine, the PO did it. It looks like he used a lathe to take a little metal off (hmmm, I'll have to go back and look at it again) but it is definitely a stocker that has had more threads put on it and then the top chopped off. I used to run a **** on the end but switched to a smaller one (less weight <G>) and I like it much better. The stock **** sucks.

+1 I tapped a ball shifter extra deep to mount way low, so low that there are threads sticking out of the top I like it but it increased effort and I miss shifted more since the throw was so different. so I went with a lancer 6pd ****, which sits taller than the oe ****... the throw is longer now but the effort is less than stock.

+20 on the Voodoo ****.

Fill out the rest of your profile and let us know where you live. Maybe someone in the area will let you borrow their Voodoo for a weekend. Seriously, before you go installing a shorty, try the Voodoo. ****, just buy one and if you don't like it, take the $5 hit and sell it on a forum.

Here's your source for Voodoo's:

I roll the Black Textured Magnum... it's a litte bigger than the standard.
