Default Some Price Guidance Here Please

Put the Torsen in my '91 with 85000 miles, 30K under turbo.

The VLSD I pulled out was not abused and still meets the spec in the manual for the testing of the LSD.

Is this worth opening up to check for wear and offering for sale? I have seen where some people have seemed to have looked for these, and others have just chucked them.

I would think the entire package would be worth $300 if you include the diff, stubs, half shafts and drive shaft. Spec Miata guys and STS2 competitors should be all over this.

I pulled $300 entirely out of my *** though

I bet $200 is not out of the question. It's better than an open rear. And a cheap option for an SM racer to get some drive on the inside wheel. I think the advantage of opening it is to have photos of the actual ring and pinion condition. Seeing is believing.

To be honest with you..people pay 500-600 for them in worse condition from planet mazda, etc. Selling it for 300 sounds more then fair.

Buying a used VLSD is like playing russian roulette either way

$200-250 is resonable. If I were you, I'd place it on the Spec Miata classifieds. Those guys are often looking for a spare or two for rebuild. Most spec guys I know rebuild their vlsd at least once a year.

Try SCCA forums as well, god knows people like to autocross Miatas.

Is it even possible to rebuild VLSD?

I don't beleive it is possible to service the VLSD itself, since it is sealed.

These prices sound pretty good. I'm surprised people will pay that much for these PsOS.

These guys can do it. http://www.phillipsraceprep.com

Admittedly, I don't know exactly what goes into their "rebuild", but I imagine it's a complete teardown.

I'm sure that's reference to the competition clutch lsd that the 1.6 SMs use. The vlsd is a sealed unit, but I thought maybe there was a "trick" you were going to reveal. Oh well.
