I am about to install my 5 pointer hopefully today and I have the 3 I-Bolts to go in.

just wondering if anyone had some pictures of their bolt locations and their harness installs.

looks relatively easy. just want to make sure I have it set up for maximum safety.

I has 4 eye-bolts..one for each anchor of the seat to attach my lap belts and 2 for my anti-sub belt.

The only bolt locations should be the anti-sub belt. At least for mine it is. I wrapped them around the harness bar and bolted them to the stock holes for the lap belt. Although according to the gforce literature, the lap belt is too far behind the seat holes.

i notice a lot of harnesses have the bolt brace's for the shoulder harnesses, but cant you just wrap that around the harnessbar without having to bolt it to anything?

and what drill bits did you find best to use for drilling through this metal floor?

just found out they make backing plates for the harness kits, so im gonna wait until i get backing plates to install it. might as well find out as many do and do nots as i can

The floor is crazy thin, I just used a regular drill bit that fit the bolts.

And yes, if you have a harness bar you can remove the hardware and loop the bar in its stead.




you can kinda see here that they are looped on the bar.

it chafes my neck a little, on my left, so yeah a pad there or sock or something would be nice.

i already wrapped the shoulder straps since it only takes 5 minutes. realized i would like the harness bar to come to the left some more so my strap can be flush through the holes in the seat, instead of the left one sitting on the corner of it.

brain - what did you do for your crotch strap? did you drill a hole in the middle for it? will the frame rails on the bottom interfere or come close if i do this?

Eye bolts into the stock locations for the lap belts, drill holes for the nutstrap. After you drill, hit the bare metal in the holes with some paint to help prevent rust. Sounds like you've got the backing plates covered. I like Nylock nuts with the backing plates since they give a little extra resistance to stuff backing off due to vibrations.

I know with my 6-pt configuration (nutstrap bolts to two points) there isn't any problem placing the holes where they won't hit frame rails and whatnot. With a 5-pt and one center bolt I'm not sure, I'd have to crawl under the car and look. Does the harness manufacturer state a limit of how many degrees off-center you can mount a single-point nutstrap? I would think you'd have a little freedom to move it left/right to dodge anything if necessary, and the frame rail is not terribly wide anyway. If you're installing a set on the passenger side, be mindful of the hard lines that run under the floorboard over there so you don't drill through them.

I went 6-pt harness for a reason. The two you see are my submarine belts on either side of the frame rail. I have the lap belts bolted to the stock points.

I have the eye bolts replace the two seat belt mounts.... the harness waist belts have "quick" release that go to the eye's....

The sub belts are through the eyes as well.....

The only issue is the centre section for the boss frog bar is a bit of a PITA with the eye bolt length, and getting the sub belts to mount well.... (damn 95 seat belt rail bars).....

ScottFW, how do you like those Kirkeys? Do you street drive them? I'm thinking of an ultrashield aluminum. Could you withstand a 3 hour trip in them?

I do street drive the Kirkeys and I've been happy with them overall. The covers have "some" padding, not luxurious by any means, but enough that comfort is no issue around town for DD-type trips. Around the 90 minute mark is when I start to notice some discomfort and want more padding. The longest trip I do with the car is the 5 hours down to VIR (one stop on the way for gas/lunch) and while I wouldn't call it "enjoyable," it is plenty "tolerable." What really helped was a $6 seat cushion from the patio furniture section at wally world. Just that little extra padding under the *** makes a great improvement for longer trips.

btw if you are going to mount your belts... i mean your SAFETY HARNESS to that thin sheet metal, at least use the biggest washers you can find. The last thing you want is the nut from the bottom pulling through the sheet metal while you are "using" the seat belt

The Kirkey's are great, I've ridden in them for 9 hr. trips with no problem.
The safe and correct way to mount the sub strap is to weld an eye bolt to a piece of steel and weld that to the floor
