Default Money Shift?

So I let a buddy drive my car this am. Responsible guy, decent driver, cool morning... ugh. Not again!

We are heading along in a straight line at maybe 60mph in 5th. I tell him to drop to 4th and stand on it for second- experience the rush.

Well, he downshifts to 2nd... the engine screams and I yell "Clutch!!!"

For maybe 2 seconds it seemed to exceed 8k. My tach is not super accurate so maybe less rpms. The car is running/ idling/ etc just fine now.

Think I'm ok? Or is it time to start buying parts for the spare motor I'm eventually going to build anyway.

It's fine. Revlimit is based on the safe to hit numbers, not absolute max.

Rev limiters don't stop the car from over revving unless it is the result of acceleration.

its either fine or its not fine.
if it wasn't fine you'd likely feel/see/hear it

What rear end is in the car? I am at work so don't have my charts available, but if I remember correctly even with the 4.3 rear end 7000 RPM in 2nd is 58 mph... so 60 wouldn't over rev it by much...

The name of this thread confuses me.

Also, yes, I think you'll be alright.

I thought I spun a bearing while doing the same thing. Instead the springs on my clutch fell out.
