But the shipping cost would be spread across more ring gears.

This is why I was hoping I could do as many as possible, of course the buy in would have been in the $6-7000+ range, but it would have been one large shipping bill instead of many smaller shipping bills. But fronting that much money on my end is just not feasible and I wouldn't expect Dann to send anything without getting paid. Yeah, if we could do it where everyone that expressed interest paid upfront, then Dann could get paid, then he would be assured he wasn't getting screwed, and whoever was importing them would be assured they weren't going to get screwed. Although, I am sure those gears would sell really quick over here even if people backed out.

But then there's more units to distribute the costs over, right? If there is such a quantum/disproportionate step up in pricing for larger/heavier packaging, then couldn't multiple smaller packages just be sent instead (as in the first shipment)? I just don't get it. Maybe it has to do with sourcing more units than are readily available off the shelf.

I'm sure its also a case of how many R&P sets Dan wants to have in his truck at one run to the junk yard and how many he can feasibly pull in a day.

Shipping costs go down by getting more shipped over. Unfortunately the cost of sourcing the 3.63 goes up with the more we get. It is simply there are only X many sets of R&P that are easy and cheap to get. After those are gone it becomes a searching junkyard game, which will add into the cost.

Lars -- as the good person that relieved you of that sorry ***, junked 6-speed, you owe me.

I don't need the gear set but I do need the speedo gear

[I already have a new 3.363 unit in the box waiting for winter and the 6-speed rebuild]

How you doing. The 6 speed is still going strong in my 94. Unfortunately Dann probably can not get the speedo gears. Or at least not in any quantity.

I hope you go in order of those who expressed interest on the thread first and not those who PMed you.....I chose to not PM you and fill your inbox when the details have not yet even been worked out. However, I do believe I was in the first five to commit on the thread.....really don't want to lose out because I didn't PM you.

Dam I sound like a little bitch! But wtf? I guess I can always go ahead and do the Frod diff swap if I don't get the gears here.....

I am going to get a shipping price for 5, and for 10 gears.

When I have that I can update costings per gear, and basically when the US connection decides how much to front, and the rest of you decide you want to front for yourselves the total number will be decided.

Up to a limit of how many gears can reasonably be attained in a period of time.

Dann

Wouldn't it be cheaper to send it to Los Angeles or San Francisco? Someone could ship em out from there.

I am guessing that the difference in cost of shipping to West Coast or East Coast will be marginal. The real limit on the price will the availability of getting the 3.63 gears.

I think shipping from Oz to the US West coast port or airport involves one boat or plane. Getting em to the east coast involves an additional truck.

I had my AVO turbo shipped from Australia to the San Francisco airport, pick-up-yourself, and it was shockingly cheap, like <$100.

Boat, yes. Plane, no. Fedex centralizes all their air freight to Memphis, and UPS centralizes to Louisville.

When I ordered my AVO (shortly after you ordered yours), it came United Airlines, through Denver and into Kansas City. I had to pick it up at the bonded customs warehouse. Super cheap, easily under $100, simply labelled as car parts (for customs purposes).

UPS or FedEx were options, and they handle customs, but they are also much more expensive. Customs was esy enough.
