Im really conflicted!

Im really conflicted!
To finish my car or not too, that is the question....
As most of you know I started on my project last year. I have gotten to the point where I have somewhat lost interest and with the possibility of moving to California, I dont know whether or not to finish it or let go of my wants. For the past month this is all I have been thinking about and it is starting to get to the point where Im stressing crazy over it.
I have already started testing waters with interest on my stuff locally but right now im just really unsure. What worries me the most about finishing her is being stuck with her at the 11th hour. Its already decided that if I move out west that the car wont be coming with me. Keeping the car honestly would not be responsible of me. Im 23 and Im trying to establish myself and set some roots.
I dont know what to do, Im really lost at this point. Hopefully some responsible people will chime in and offer some advice. Im not really looking for the "Dont be a bitch and finish the car" responses. Just real honest input.

I think it would be in your best interest to keep all the parts you want on the car, and bring them with you. There are a lot of pretty good Miata deals on craigslist here. Bring your parts, find a good car, and just make it happen in Cali. Smog is only every two years, and honestly it's not a huge deal to just swap stock parts back in for smog.

You have already pretty much decided. Just go with your "responsible" instincts.
Although what wittyworks is saying doesn't sound unreasonable either.
Make the judgement call man. I had to when I sold my sexy beast. I miss it greatly at times, but for the most part I'm looking forward to the future and enjoying my current forester xt sport.
Make a list of pros and cons if that sort of thing helps you

Yeah, Im dont want to get out of the game all together. I still want a Miata. So keeping some parts wouldnt be a bad Idea. One of the things that I have been thinking on is when I get out there pick up a Miata for my DD and leave the drivetrain pretty much stock but do everything else. Then pick up a pre 1975 car and do the crazy swap/turbo/insanity to it.
It will be about a year and a half before Im in a position to relocate. I just trying to get a head start on getting my ducks in a row now!

It sucks but do what is best for your future.
I've been wanting to turbo the 99 like I did the 92 I use to have. But with wedding plans, grad school, and work, and the economy at large, I just keep backing off. It sucks but I think i'm doing the right thing for my future, and the car is still fun to drive the way I have it set up. I just cant graduate from autoX to anything more substantial.

If you die in next year will you feel better on your death bed know you've completed a totally badass Miata, bringing you vision to fruition and celebrating that feat with countless ripper drives? Or will you be at peace know that you got a start on "establishing yourself and starting some roots"?
That said, if you don't die next year, it would totally suck leaving a kickass build back here, not getting any return on all the hours and dollars spent.

I think you already know my answer, but I will say it again, Do not move out to California and finish this damn car! It makes me sad every time I see the car just sitting there begging to be finished!

I've been there. When you get it all together and it works right, it will be worth the work. I was temped to waiver and stay NA the entire time of my build, during the broken turbo parts era, and especially when I killed the CHRA...but now that my car works I'm so happy I stuck with it. I have a car that I can keep for the rest of my life and always appreciate. I don't know if you have a relationship as romantic as what my car and I have, but for me there is no replacement and I own an example of a car that's greater than the sum of its parts, fast as hell, its iconic, and the car commands respect.

I am please to say that I got a lil bit of work done to the car! :biggrin: I finished up the cooling system with the exception of the lower rad hose and one heater core line. Got the waterlines for the turbo tightened up and also starting to get the TSE COPs installed. I just have to wire them in. I just need to get injectors, ECU, wheels, tires and a bunch of small **** then Ill be good to go.
