Default What should I do?

Hi All,

I have a 92' stock Miata in good repair (85k) that I have to sell but it has the dreaded air bag light blinking. I don't want to spend all lot on repairs just to sell the car. What do you think I should do?

Repair the air bag module.

Install an aftermarket steering wheel with resistor.

Sell as is to Miata enthusiast.

Other ideas?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts,
Marc

Do nothing. Ask for 5% more than the car is probably really worth. Sell for 3-5% less than it'd be worth with a working airbag.
Profit/laziness.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Thanks for the idea but is it true that I can't sell the car if the airbag light is blinking?

Not sure where you are located, so I can't comment on local law, but I think you can sell a car that won't pass inspection if you disclose it up front.

Most used car purchases have an assumed "as is" on the condition of the car.

If you're really nervous about it you can write up a bill of sale that mentions the airbag light being on, and that purchasing the car means the buyer assumes all responsibility/liability for it, etc.

Again, thanks for the comments. I have learned a bit. Just to be clear, I don't want to fix the airbag module if someone wants to tear it out or bypass it and install a custom steering wheel, as was my plan. And I don't want to install a custom steering wheel if someone wants to choose their own while tricking out the car. I am happy to discount the selling price in lieu of the airbag light, but don't want to throw away money -- mine or the buyers!

Too much work cover with tape or put a resistor on the plug.

But on a serious note, is it blinking because it needs to be reset due to a battery pull?

Tried all the tricks, including reset. No go! It's the blue module under dash and I am just too big {physically) to do the job myself.

This will fix you right up. Worked like a charm on my car when nothing else did.
