i would look heavily into both sr20 and f20c swaps before going v8. In fact i would also consider a build on the 1.8l. if you can reach the 300hp mark on a 4cyl it will be much more intertaining then a 300hp v8, not to mention a little faster due to weight. If i ever end up swaping the miata it will get an f20c or a k24/k20 you can buy an adapter plate to stick the s2k tranny on the k20 engine. either of those 4cyl setups can hit 300whp na on pump gas, the k24/k20 can do it with stock rotating assembly. not much is gonna out do that. also with the turbo 4cyl u will make a lil less torque and therefore break a lil less **** and spin a lil less.

I have. Thanks. 50 hours at the most. About the only thing easier is swapping a BP for a BP

Take it from someone who has done a good amount of swaps and a bunch on my miata if you do not have ample time do not do it. You will either not do it right and constantly be fixing it or do it right and be well outside of your time frame. I have swap my miata to bp then to a 2jz. When I did the bp I though well I will get all the stuff together and do it in a weekend. Turned out an easy swap went horrible when nothing would go right for me. First thing was I could not find the tap for the throttle body to use the FM adapter plate then my injectors leaked every where and I had no welder and the exhaust was no where near being close. This turned into a week of riding the bus while all the parts came in and then fix the car the following weekend. As for the LS swap I have not done one on a miata but have done 3 others 2 80's notchback mustangs and 1 s10 even with all the necessary pre made parts and adapters plug and play harness, in hand with endless hours of internet reaseach all of them took more time then you would think. The fastest to date was the last notch back with motor out back in and running in 5 full work days. So if you do not have an extra car or lots of time don't do it. Boost the bp you will be happy 250 whp in a miata is fast and to add to my post my 2jz swap was supposed to take about 6 months total here I am 1 year 2months and 3 days later and its ready to go get tuned.lol

Where's the link? I'd like to see the lsx miata done in 50 hours. It'd be a new record thats way quicker then even FM's recent builds.

Do the swap if you love the ls1. If your just looking for power, boost the hell out of a built BP.

It's our friend Alex. No idea if his car is on here or not. Silver NB miata. TSE did it. I was along for the ride.

It's not that hard. Rip all the drivetrain out, massage the trans tunnel, stick the new subframe in, new drivetrain, get the LS wiring in there, install the new gas pedal and then fire it up.

300whp n/a on a k20/k24? are you ******* high?
I had 4 RSX's and know my way around the k series engine.
You are ******* retarded.
Also it would be much harder to swap than any of the mentioned engines and or get to work in a miata.

All of the rest of your comments are ******* retarded too: with a v8 you swap the whole drivetrain including the diff and tranny, so you actually break LESS **** cause you end up with a strong drivetrain.

Also torque is awesome. Lowend torque is awesome. Midrange torque is awesome. They all feel great and make the car fun as ****.
You haven't the slightest clue what you're talking about do you?

I've got a S2K friend who claims this too. I told him the same thing. He swears by it. But then again he also picked a S2K so his brain must be clouded.

I've seen 250whp from cammed+full bolt on+kpro setups.
I've seen 280whp from heavily massaged high compression all out builds with tons of money dumped into them. 300whp on k24/20 frank with stock rotating assembly? bahahaha yeah right.

I'm still convinced that the FE3 is the way to go. Cheap, stock motor that is a cinch to put in and capable of a reliable 500whp. Besides a custom intake manifold it's all the same school of thought as turbocharging a Miata...just a bigger turbo and a lot more burning rubber.

I have a friend who also claims he's seen K20/K24's make over 300whp N/A. I'd have to see it on a dyno to believe it. As for your 4 RSX's...were they all Type S's? There is a differnece in these engines. Plus, the K24 bottom end is nothing that an RSX uses whether it's a Type S or not. I heard it's a frankenstein motor, I think CRV engine? K24 Bottom, K20 top, and whatever else. I don't care. Just sayin...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN-wa8DREio
and fyi highest hp na k series is over 400hp but thats not streetable at all.
also good for boosting they have put down over 600whp with stock pistons and rods and stock heads just studs and a turbo kit + fuel system.
300hp can be done on stock rotating assemb with a shaved head and alot of head work. the all out race car builds all make well over 300hp they would not compete if they didnt those cars are running 10.5xs at like high 120s gl doing that with anything less then 300hp in a car thats required to weigh 2200lbs not to mention its fwd so traction is more then limited.

I'm not putting a K in. No interest in blazing new territory. Can the K-series talk be moved elsewhere?

KL-T.. hmm..

No offense to those of you that took a year to do the swap, but the thousand-hour LS swap is a running joke at the shop. When we had the drivetrain in the car at the ~35 hour mark the guys who swore up and down that it couldn't be done in less than 500 hours were pure entertainment. I think our LS2 build earlier this year was in the shop for 8 weeks, and ~3 of that was waiting on parts. I think we ended up with just under 100 hours into the swap.

We bill a flat $4k labor to do the swap using V8R parts - drive the Miata in, drop off all the necessary parts and cut the check and come back in ~6 weeks to get the car. Or drop off a running car and a larger check and we'll build a turnkey car to your specs.

I say forget the LS swap and just build the engine that's in the car. Yeah, it won't be as powerful as a LS, but you should have alot of fun with it. I went for a ride in 2.0L stroked Miata (170 WHP) and a turbo with 250 WHP one, I enjoyed the ride in 2.0L more than I did the turbo version. Something about natural aspiration I find very appealling. I must add that the stroked out car had a very nice suspension. The trubo car had an aftermarket suspension also, but of a lesser quality. I fair that LS swap will through the balance off and your Miata won't quite be a Miata anymore. I said my piece.

Wow! That is some serious timing considering we had 15-20 hours into just cleaning, cutting, and test fitting the engine before rewelding the tunnel.

You and yours have also been in and out of the Miata's a few times before building them. For most swappers, this is their first rodeo. Not sure how many people on this board have had their cars down to the tub, but that's the first thing that needs done........ Very intimidating and good lord, who knew a little miata could take up a 4 car garage once it pukes its guts up!?!

Did you trim the wiring harness and all that good jazz, or are you talking about just piercing it together (like most everyone else but the ---- retentive group)? Also, what did you do about the front sway bar? After moving the bar forward with an 1/8th inch of air gap to slide the belt between the pulley and bar, RB bar played tag with the brand new 6UL's....... Needless to say, they lost.

We have been around Miatas a bit. I believe initial teardown (motor/tranny/diff/dashboard/HVAC) was ~8 hours.

Swaybar mounts were fabbed to the chassis and clear 9" 6ULs, no problem. The wiring harness for the motor was largely removed and replaced by the factory LS2 harness.

I hate to hijack the thread, but can you post pictures along with which bar was used? I'm thinking the 90-93 bar is shorter then the later year RB bars.
