so i got around to doing my hid/blinker mod
i have a set of 6k hid's in the pop ups, but i dont like having those open at highway speed, well, frankly, i dont like having them up anymore. so i did this today.
i took a set of hid's and fit them into the blinkers, so now instead of a blinker, i have an hid there. This works great on the highway and driving around town, but on back roads with dense trees, i pop the head lights and use those hids for a more spread beam.

they fit great, i just used some hot glue to seat them perfectly. they produce more light than stock headlights, but not as much light as an hid in the stock position.

and yes, i chose 25k.....







**ps** i still need an hid ballast, if anyone has a working one, thanx

holy **** those seem bright, you sure you need those on back roads? they look brighter than stock at the very least

It looks like the HID bulb is using the inside and lens of the turn signal as the reflector and lens. I'm guessing the light isn't directed to the road very well and has lot's of scatter explaining the need for suplimental light on dark twisty roads. Any concerns with the plastic lens and heat?

i threw hid's into my 7 inch barn door, and took off the beam protectors, and the little metal things that cut the beam some,, drive with those on, and anything else seems like its barely on.

the light is scattered, yes, and as for heat,, lol hadn't considered it
i figure its made just like the head light which can stand it, and its designed for my blinkers to be in them, so its close enough

I remember over the years reading about problems with HID's in the turn signals housings. They get too hot for the small area of plastic and start to melt things. This was from m.net days I read this....probably why more people haven't done it.

If it was me, I would get a set of new clear ones off ebay that don't have the pattern on the lens. They wouldn't looks so reflective right on the lens like they do now. And you'd get a better view from them I'd think.

I have a set and smoked them, for like $40 they look dope. I might use them in place of my TSI's. I wonder how you'll hold up, let us know after a week or so.

so I had to test it.. HID reverse light is ******* SWEET.. you can see like 100+ yards behind the car. gets WAY too hot, though.

So did you loose the function of your front blinker?

I'm interested to see how this works, although it looks like it would REALLY **** off everyone on the road. I remeber a sig something like "HID in miata=*******" now it could be "HIDs all over the front of the car=megadousche".

And wait, don't HIDs need a ballast to work?

You think it would be ok for bursts while stopped at lights to blind SUV drivers?? I would seriously do this when those ******* pull right up on my *** at stop lights..... just to let them know how i feel.

I can't imagine itd hurt things at all for a few seconds, maybe a minute or two.

Frequently at night if I have my top up (20% tint) I can't see anything out my back window, and on my Speed6 (5% tint) can't ever see **** while backing.. Was thinking if I upgraded to some HID lighting in the reverse lights, then I could see perfectly fine what was behind me. Did replace the Speed6 incandescent bulbs with some SMD-LED replacements. Something like 25 LEDs on it and they're pretty bright, but obviously nothing to an HID bulb.

As for the HID blinker, I would suspect ballast life would be shortened significantly having it blink on and off all the time. Most likely the igniter would go bad.

As for the blinker HID.... if it becomes a problem, jsut buy those cheap *** kits off egay

the bulb won't last long either... especially since you'll be turning it on and of and on and off before the bulb even gets a chance to warm up

I think this is a terrible idea, first, you will melt your turn signal, this is already proven, second, you have no pattern, just a bright *** light all over the place which means you will get hit by oncoming traffic sooner or later, third, you are subject to tickets now even more.
Bad idea, sorry for sounding like a Mnet mod, but I dissagree with this.
