Bad idea, sorry for sounding like a Mnet mod, but I dissagree with this.
I'm with you there. However, if it wouldnt melt the signal, i would do it on a switch. I drive on back country roads a lot where deer are very common. I would love to have a ridiculously bright set of lights that i could use for those back roads. Definitely not something i would want to use all the time.

Someone posted a link in a thread in just the last few day about different lighting, read up on it, there are solutions other than HID. I am really wanting to beef up my wires and use competition bulbs I learned about yesterday...the sex!!!

No, Thats me.

You say there are solutions other than HID, but is that why High quality professional dive lights are HID, highway construction lighting is HID based, even Rally lights are all HID...

Sorry to **** on your parade, but an electronic arc inside a gas capsule is the brightest ******* thing next to an atom bomb... NO piece of glowing tungsten is ever going to come close, no matter what gas the manufacture claims engulfs it.

The 100 watt German made HELLA bulbs in my 2000 Protege don't even come remotely close to the light output of my 6000k china HID lights on the miata, and I NEVER EVER get flashed by oncoming traffic in the Miata. Do in the protege all the time, even with the 80 watt low beams on.

ok, so i just drove the car around for 35 minutes with them on, everything from traffic conditions, to highway, to well, anything u can think of.

had only one screw holding in one of the blinkers, took it apart as soon as i got in the driveway, with them still on, and they are luke warm to the touch, nothing more, no melting or anything. and i have only a 15 min highway ride from work, which is when i have these on, so far, works great.

Stock turn signal bulbs in the city light portion of the turn signals will start to melt the lense. It did on mine. ebay led replacements did the trick for that location.

If there is no cutoff on the HIDs in those housings... take them out. Nothing is worse than not being able to see because some cheapass put HIDs in his car and doesn't care about blinding the other drivers on the road.

No, it's a trophy truck running the Baja 1000. Those guys put 8 to 12 (or more) reflector-style HIDs on their vehicles (no cutoff) pointed up, down, left, right, basically it's like driving around with a dwarf star strapped to the roof.
