1: winning takes a lot of luck. Getting lucky twice is unlikely. Something about lightning, blah blah blah..
2: Winning pretty much guarantees a residual value of $499.99 (the Metro that won T-Hill was valued at $499.98 after it won), leaving you no money to fix/maintain the car before the next race. After 14 hours of flogging, your shitbox is likely shot. The Metro, for example, HAD to replace their chain (and upgrade to a double-chain, acutally) between races, resulting in a 13-lap penalty from the start for spending $130 on used chains and sprokets. They also ran out of luck, melting their brakes, nearly rolling (colliding, roof-first, into a Volvo instead), and finally snapping a ball joint.
I doubt we'll be burdened with 337 lbs of nickels again this year...
