Rear Hood Prop for Better Cooling in Import Tuner
There was an article in a ricer magazine which I believe was Import Tuner about raising the rear of a Miata hood a bit for better cooling. I know this is very hackneyed and a subject that has been beaten into ground beef like how most of your guys' sphincters look.
Anyway, there was an avg 13.5*F temp drop in intake and engine bay temperature being tested both moving (stop/go and freeway) and stationary.
They had 3 graphs w/ data listed.
I'm sure having the probe right at the cowl area probably skewed the results, but I thought it was interesting that an air filter over the header had such drastic drop in IATs.
I read it really fast since I didn't want to be seen reading this magazine
so take it fwiw. The magazine is shitty.
For some reason, I thought there was some anecdotal evidence that claimed the contrary. It still looks gay.

do you want air to go through the radiator or get sucked through the back of the hood for the intake?
Who cares if the header is hot? I've never understood why the NA idiots are so concerned with header temps...its hot because exhaust gas goes through it.

I wouldn't raise the rear of my hood on the Miata if It gave me 10hp and a *******. That **** looks gay, and it's been proven to totally fuxor heat exchanger airflow.

I had an old turbo car of mine hood propped. Helped with cooling issues.
THE biggest proof to me that it worked was come winter time... I couldn't get the car to warm up for the life of me with the hood propped. Put hood back to normal and boom... instantly back to normal heat up time.

The only way this is working is if, while moving, air is exiting the sides of the hood (small gap between fenders and hood) en masse. It would have to do so enough to offset the air being forced in at the cowl.

And no I haven't forgotten about the area between the engine bay and the windshield.
All I have to offer is something that WORKED from my experience. Nothing more. Did I saw it was working a track speeds? Or claim it gave 20 HP?
I simply offered what was a real experience of mine that to me showed it did create a difference. Warm up time differences to me showed a change in overall temp. And it was a simple before after with 1 single change to control what happened.
Look at my car btw.. I could give a **** what something looks like btw... I just care if the changes/holes/cuts/slashes work.
